Single Malt Whiskeys - A Quick Walkthrough!

Single Malt Scotch Whiskey is something that is rounding around the movies and tag lines. We see Bollywood and Hollywood tasting and enjoying the single malt beverage. So this is how we started to dig on the topic, what made the single malt so special and is it really that good a whiskey?

Single Malt

Usual belief is that the single malt whiskey is made from a single grain, preferably barley and is fermented in a single distillery and is made to mature in a oak cask for n years depending on the choices each distillery provides. The single malt whiskey is smoother and should change your thoughts if you are coming from a blended whiskey drinker.

But on research we found that this is not usually how the large manufacturers do this, the concept is that the whiskey is made in a single distillery and will contain the product of many barrels usually aged to the same number of years. So, A single-malt Lagavulin may contain whiskies from many barrels produced at the Lagavulin distillery, but it will contain only whiskies produced at Lagavulin.

Also A single-grain scotch whisky varies only in that it contains barley and one or more other cereal grains, usually wheat or corn.

Is there any standards followed in the Making of Single Malt Whiskey?

Yes, as per wikipedia, Under Scotch Whisky Regulations, a "Single Malt Scotch Whisky" must be made exclusively from malted barley (although the addition of E150A caramel colouring is allowed), must be distilled using pot stills at a single distillery, and must be aged for at least three years in oak casks of a capacity not exceeding 700 litres (150 imperial gallons; 180 US gallons).

The Indian Presence

Amrut is the global presence from India in single malt whiskey range. The product is said to have changed the concept of whiskey distilleries across India in the global stage. The Amrut Distilleries Ltd was founded in Bangalore, Karnataka in 1948 by JN Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale.

They branch launched globally on 24 August 2004 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The brand became famous after whisky connoisseur Jim Murray gave it a rating of 82 on a scale of 1–100 in 2005, and again in 2010, when Murray declared Amrut Fusion single malt whisky as the world's third-best whisky in that year's edition of his annual Whisky Bible.

It is also the only brand which made it to the London department store Harrods' "Whiskies around the World" section. It went on sale at Harrods in October 2011 and is currently the only Indian liquor brand to ever retail at the store.

Tushaar and Riteish - Outrageous and Sarah falling in?

Kya Super Kool Hain Hum(click here for trailers) is the new title which is gaining its popularity with the songs, especially the dance flicks Dil Garden Garden and Shirt Da Button. The movie features Riteish Deshmukh and Tusshar Kapoor in the lead roles and it is made as a sequel to the previous movie 'Kya Kool Hain Hum' which was a sleeper hit on screen. The team plans to regenerate the magic this time again.

As per Riteish, the movie is much more mad than its prequel, “It’s a new story and completely mad,” he says with a smile. The latest news is that the team has bagged the rights for UP-Bihaar Lootne, a Shilpa Shetty item number and will be producing a remix version of the song pretty soon. The remix will however have the duo doing the thumka's and jhatka's instead of Govinda and Shilpa. To which Riteish says "“He has inspired me and if I am even one per cent as good as Govinda, it will be a job well done,” says Ritiesh. He adds that the male version of the chartbuster from Shool (1999), sung by Sukwinder Singh and Daler Mehndi, is not an attempt to break Shilpa Shetty’s sexy image, but to make Ekta Kapoor’s sequel “super kool”. In the film, Riteish lives off his pug that mates regularly and earns money for his master.

Interestingly the pug is named Fakrudin or Fuckrudin - on the naughty side. To this Riteish says, “It’s actually Fakru, depending on how you spell it,” corrects the actor, but admits that the comic caper is slightly risqué. “It’s the naughtiest film I have done. In fact, when I signed my contract, it said that Ekta would give me tickets to fly out of the country when Kya Super Kool Hain Hum released, to avoid the brickbats.” And after the short break, Riteish will start shooting for another sequel, Masti 2, in August.

He also clarified that he has no plans yet for Dostana 2, as he hasn't be approached and Houseful 3 is not yet on board, so he humbly asked the reporters to stop spending time on that rumor. 

Sarah Jane Diaz goes gaga over snack from Tusshar! 

The main hobbies of the lead actress is trying out new food. And it is said that Sarah Jane Diaz is completely crazy about the cheese chilli toast that she ate at Tusshar's house. "Sarah was bonding with her co-stars Tusshar Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh and Neha Sharma at Tusshar’s house. It is where she tasted the delicious starter, and now can’t stop from gorging on more of it. She loved the dish so much that now she wants to go back to his place just to have a bite of the cheese chilli toast.” adds a source. 

It is also said that the crew is pulling leg of Sarah on this and says that she is making out reasons for being with Tusshar, “Her co-stars have started pulling her leg over the whole thing. She wants to hang out now at Tusshar’s place only for that snack. So, Sarah has been bonding lately with Tusshar. They had a blast shooting the film and have now become very good friends. they sometimes hang out now at each other’s pad,” says a source.
