Asin ready for an item number?

Asin Thottumkal had made a huge impact back at South Indian Film industry before she bagged in a smart role in Ghajini opposite the Mr. Perfectionist, the role was carried out so easily that it was already a great impression on her as an actress. She did have few drops after the 100crore venture, but she has managed to clear out from the hassle as her 3 movies in bollywood has already crossed the 100crore mark, namely Ghajini, Houseful 2 and Ready!

She still feels that these successes are not enough for her to be counted in the A-listers and she says she would be surprised if she does get fitted in! “I have never tom-tommed about being a part of so many Rs. 100 crore outings, nor did I call myself as being a lucky mascot for the film’s makers. I guess I’m just bad at marketing myself,” she laughs.

Also she confirms that she had no qualms about the roles she had been taking up or not getting listed as a lead actress, “But I seriously believe that if the film works, it works in totality and not because of a particular actor. So I enjoy the success, but don’t like to take the credit for it.”

She also did take the opportunity to clarify that her recent roles were just made for entertainment rather than for critics to judge her talents :

"My last film, Housefull 2 was made only for audience entertainment and satisfaction. It was not made to impress the critics. Moreover, the film did really well at the box office," says Asin, adding, "It was sheer coincidence that my last few films were in the comedy genre. I strongly believe that the so-called masala films are just a concept."

Asin who is currently working with Akshay Kumar on Khiladi 786 is enjoying the company of her co-star and feels extremely comfortable there. "We have finished shooting for the first schedule of the film and Akshay is a fabulous co-star. He is funny and it was great to team up with him after Housefull 2." says Asin.

However when TOI asked her about her reason for backing out of remake of 'Vettai', a south flick, she did not comment on the issue. The rumor was that Asin had agreed for the role but when she heard that it was Shahid Kapoor who was being chosen for the lead role, she backed out!

Why No South Movies?

"There is nothing that's stopping me from doing films in south. But the scripts that I have been receiving of late are boring and I am looking for a character that's completely different from what I have done so far. I have had my share of good roles in the south and I do not want to repeat them."

How About An Item number?

When asked if she might be doing any item numbers pretty soon she says "First of all, I don't appreciate the term 'item' as I find it derogatory. Secondly, I have not been approached for any such number so far. Being a dancer myself, it's easy for me to pull off one."

So she might pull one off! Beware - or be waiting

Shahid confirms Vettai remake

Actors from Salman Khan to Akshay Kumar are open to doing South remakes, and now its Shahid Kapoor turn.

It is said that recently UTV Motion Pictures arranged a special screening of Vettai for Shahid Kapoor and the storyline impressed him. Shahid Kapoor gave a nod instantly and allotted the dates for the film. The actor will fill Madhavan's shoes. Filming begins from mid-April onwards.

Originally directed by N Lingusamy, Vettai released in January this year and became a super hit too. Looking at the success of the film producers have decided to remake the movie in Hindi with the same director. Vettai has Arya and R Madhavan in lead roles. As far as the Hindi version is concerned, Shahid has been considered to play the role R Madhavan did in the original. UTV is still on the lookout to fill the other cast. Vettai will have two actors and two actresses.

Meanwhile, UTV’s project which is not yet titled directed by Abhishek Kapoor might feature popular television actor Sushant Singh Rajput in one of the leads and if they do so this will mark Sushant’s big screen debut.

This movie will be Shahid Kapoor's first Hindi remake of a south film.

SRK and Imran on hunt?

Shahrukh Khan and Imran Khan are going to pair pretty soon, atleast that is the talk that we have strong in the industry and this will be for the remake of the South Indian Super hit movie 'Vettai' which did star R. Madhavan and Arya. The movie had shown a Madhavan playing the good cop who loves peace and Arya the younger brother with violet attitude.

So it might be the new Khan brothers of tinsel town. There has also been news that R. Madhavan is keen on portraying his role in Hindi as well, as he has a couple of hits in Hindi and carries the same persona as he does in Tamil movies. "But UTV, who have earned huge profits with the Tamil film, would rather take the remake further with two big stars in the lead roles. And since Shah Rukh and Imran have shied away from remakes of South Indian films, the production house feels that the novelty factor of their pairing will add to the edge of the remake," added the source.

When contacted, Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV was noncommittal about the pairing and simply said, "Nothing has been finalised yet. It's too early to talk about the details. But we're definitely considering remaking our Tamil production Vettai in Hindi, since it's a huge success down south."

Actress Sameera Reddy Injured!

Sameera Reddy who was recently shooting for her upcoming movie 'Vettai' got injured seriously on the very shot. The movie required her to be running in half-saree in the first shot and also to ride a bike in the same sequence which seems to have brought about this ill luck on the actress.

The movie is being shot at Coimbatore. The movie crew do report that her dress got caught up on the bike and this made her and her co-star Amala Paul fall on the ground. Both actresses were taken to the nearby hospital and was later brought back to the shooting location for the rest of the days shoot.

Vettai is the movie written by L. Lingusami and stars Madhavan, Arya, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul, also the movie is produced by the home production house of Lingusami.
