It's important to note that what we are looking at here is a prototype, not a finished product. The photos we have are of a model believed to exist in 2013. It is likely that, had this become a real product, consumers would have seen significant hardware and software differences. First, let's look at the photos.

says Androidpolice. The watch is a square dial as shown in the photos with a rubber wrist band. The rocker buttons are on the top of the screen and the bottom part includes a 'back' button. The display is shows 3Bit Mode apps which may be a indication of apps working in 8 color mode and will also have a slot for USB connection on the wrist band.

You can find a detailed report here at Android Police Website

Considering the takeover by Lenovo, it will be tough to estimate when the gadget will find itself on to global market.

Facebook's Android App Is Malicious, Reads SMS - Kaspersky

Not surprising for facebook, we had seen cookies tracking the activity of facebook users. But this one is on mobile where facebook intends to read your SMS using their app for mobile! This is now considered a great breach to privacy and the issue has been confirmed by Kaspersky Labs as well.

    Facebook Reads Text Messages
    facebook's breach into privacy : Photo courtesy : ientry.com

“Over the last few days there has been a constant scrutiny over Facebook having access to your SMS. Buried within the latest update for Facebook’s Android app is a feature that is causing growing concern among some users,” Kaspersky said in a statement today. The social media’s logic behind seeking access to SMS is that if you add a phone number to your account, this allows them to confirm your the number automatically by finding the confirmation code within a text message. This is the same technique used by various apps, including Whatsapp to verify your phone number at the time of installation.

The updated Facebook application now wants to read calendar events plus confidential information which it justifies as it is required to allow the app to show your calendar availability (based on your phone’s calendar) when you’re viewing an event on Facebook.  “Two-factor authentication provides an extra level of security, so it’s good to see Facebook providing this option … As a final note, we’d urge people to carefully check the permissions requested by any app when you first install it,” Kaspersky Lab’s Principal Security Researcher David Emm said. Kaspersky added the permissions also grants access to multimedia messages, for which reason is not explicitly given.

Kaspersky mentions that Android still has control over how the permissions of the app are dealt. But the increasing encroachments on to privacy of users seems to be a concern. In response to the issue, facebook mentioned on the website :  “Keep in mind that Android controls the way the permissions are named, and the way they’re named doesn’t necessarily reflect the way the Facebook app uses them. We realise that some of these permissions sound scary, so we’d like to provide more info about how we use them.”

So how many will be removing the facebook app from their phones? Please note that this is only part of the latest update on facebook App.

You can find the detailed explanation from Facebook at : https://www.facebook.com/help/210676372433246

We are happy, facebook for taking time to write this out, but this will no way justify the need to read text!

Louise Orpin, co-founder of TimeAppsule said: "Mobile devices currently provide functionality to share immediate or self-destructing gifts, messages and content, but not content which unlocks at a set time. Ransomware scare all around Android Market - Warns McAfee

The scare of ransomware had been discussed earlier, but we found McAfee mentioning this recently via TOI. The latest update from McAfee shows that the count of ransomware active on android is increasing at a rapid pace.

Taking advantage of anonymous payment services, cyber criminals are increasingly using a malicious software 'ransomware' that holds a computer hostage until the victim pays to free it, online security firm McAfee says.

"Ransomware has become an increasing problem during the last several quarters and the situation continues to worsen. The number of new, unique samples this quarter is greater than 312,000, slightly less than last quarter but still the second highest figure recorded by the firm," the McAfee Labs Threats Report Third Quarter 2013, said.

The scary part is that the client may send out the money and the abusers may not even remove the malware leaving the user phone frozen.

"This method of cash collection is superior to that used by fake AV products, for example, which must process credit card orders for the fake software. Another reason is that an underground ecosystem is already in place to help with services such as pay-per-install on computers that are infected by other malware, such as Citadel, and easy-to-use crime packs are available in the underground market," McAfee said.

The US-based cyber security major also reported about 700,000 new Android malware samples, up by 30 per cent, during the third quarter signifying an increase in the number of attacks on the mobile operating system.

Malware, also known as malicious software, threats are increasing on mobile phones, especially Android.

"Despite responsible new security measures by Google, McAfee Labs believes the largest mobile platform will continue to draw the most attention from hackers given it possesses the largest base of potential victims," it said.

Switch From Iphone To Android - Eric Schmidt Has The Guide!

Iphone although it has been booming int the market, our personal feel is that its none other than an older technology still in the halo of great Steve Jobs. The phone hasn't been able to compete much with the android techs and has been adding in peripherals to match the competitors.

Again, we are not taking out the fact that Iphone is a status symbol!! Many carry their phones not because its great technology, its just the pseudo feel great factor and the wow's that you expect from iphone. So if you want a friend or relative to break out from the iphone halo and see the real world, here is google's Eric Schmidt who has written an excellent guide on how to do it!

"Many of my iPhone friends are converting to Android. The latest high-end phones from Samsung (Galaxy S4), Motorola (Verizon Droid Ultra) and the Nexus 5 (for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile) have better screens, are faster, and have a much more intuitive interface. They are a great Christmas present to an iPhone user!

Here are the steps I recommend to make this switch. Like the people who moved from PCs to Macs and never switched back, you will switch from iPhone to Android and never switch back as everything will be in the cloud, backed up, and there are so many choices for you. 80% of the world, in the latest surveys, agrees on Android."

Read The Full Guide at : Eric Schmidt's Guide

That is how the guide starts and also doesn't forget to bang on "Safari" the proud mac/iphone browser mentioning fans to join google chrome which is much more secure and also free (download and updates). Considering the fact that there hasn't been an update made to Safari for windows since May 9 2012, we should agree to what Eric has mentioned.

So just spread the joy this christmas with an Android Gift :-P

HTC One Max Will Feature Finger Print Security

Following the path of much successful iphone 5S finger print reader, it is HTC that is the first to introduce the system on to Android platform. HTC has released One Max, with finger print reader identical to Apple Iphone 5S.

The phone will be a 5.9 inch screen running Android 4.3. The phone can run on fourth-generation Long-Term Evolution networks, it said in a statement yesterday. The device, using Qualcomm Inc.’s Snapdragon 600 processor will debut in China, U.K. and Taiwan before starting U.S. sales, Chief Marketing Officer Ben Ho said in an interview today.

The Taiwanese company had registered a loss in the first quarter and is planning to regain the market with the newly released HTC one max. The market was easily taken away from HTC by the leader Samsung and the new defined Sony Xperia series.

“Large-screen phones have been picked up in Asia more than in Western countries, and the trend for larger is definitely there,” Ho said by phone. One Max is HTC’s last major product release this year ahead of the next One device expected in the first quarter, he said.

The phone will be officially unveiled at a press conference today in Beijing and becomes the latest model to be first shown in China. Various models of its Desire series as well as China-specific phones have been released first in that market, Ho said.

One Max will be released by the end of this month featuring HTC’s UltraPixel camera technology, first unveiled with the HTC One in February. Its fingerprint sensor is on the device’s back while Apple’s is on the front.
