Freida Pinto's Beautiful Journey : Trishna

The 'Slumdog Millionaire' girl comes back again with an Indian theme, this time she is back on the panorama with 'Trishna' which is a story that explains the journey of a poor village girl who falls for a rich boy. The showcases her along with Anurag Kashyap, who has removed his directorial cap and is working in as an actor in the movie. The actress feels that the journey is sweet but tragic.

Based on Thomas Hardy's classic Tess of the d'Urbervilles, British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom's newest film is set in rural Rajasthan. It has Pinto playing the title role of Trishna, an auto-rickshaw driver's daughter who falls for a rich boy.(trailer here)

"I guess the journey is very beautiful and at the same time very tragic," she says, "because it goes from being really innocent to being in a situation of almost desperation and finally to redemption."

"It's quite an intense journey for one girl to go through," Pinto told IANS over phone from New York, where she arrived for the red carpet premiere of the film at the IFC Centre in Manhattan earlier this week.

Pinto also admitted that doing 'Trishna' was a tough job for her as the character she played is completely opposite of what she is in real life. The actress is often referred to as outspoken and too bold which is completely against the character Trishna. She also says that Michael had to control her emotions and dialogues through the shoots as she reacted naturally than like what Trishna would have done ""So I guess that was really hard for me, especially because we didn't really have a solid script," she said. "So every time, I would try to say something or speak out against something, Michael would just say, 'No, you don't say anything in this situation. Just observe'."

The actress had also prepared herself by staying in the village in Rajasthan's Osian village in a family setting and interviewed a number of girls who worked at hotels and one who worked as ground staff in an airline.

"It was very interesting that all the stories were different from the other, but the bottom line came down to 'whatever dad thinks is probably right and we'll just follow that or whatever our future husband thinks is right is going to be our life from then on,'" she said.

"And that for me was the startling reality that I had to just come to terms with to understand my character better," Pinto said.

Pinto, who came to limelight with her very first film, Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, considers both Boyle and Winterbottom as "absolutely amazing filmmakers," with definitely different working styles.

For one thing they are "very completely different films", Pinto said. " Slumdog... is a love story that has a beautiful message of hope at the end of it. And the other one is a tragic love story which can be very sad." Secondly, while she had a detailed script for Slumdog Millionaire, "as far as Trishna went, all the experience I had gathered was going to be put to the test with Michael because we did not have a solid script and I had to really let go if I had any kind of inhibitions."

Pinto was also happy about her co-star  Anurag Kashyap and thought that he could do some serious acting in future. Also she expressed her desire to start with Bollywood and to do some good movies "Well, when people use the term 'Bollywood', I hope they are including Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and all these wonderful filmmakers as well because definitely I would love to work with them," said Pinto, adding: "Why not?"

Although she lives in Los Angeles these days for convenience's sake, Mumbai will always be number one for Pinto because "it has made me the person I am today - very outspoken".

"Oh, my god, there is no comparison. Mumbai is Mumbai."

Freida Pinto : Kareena Kapoor is a game changer

The one heroine that changed the face of Indian cinema and the one who put an end to the phenomenal fee differences between lead male actors and lead female actors. That is what Freida Pinto feels about Kareena Kapoor. She was talking to a daily yesterday when she started her praise for Kareena Kapoor and expected it to be a good phase for Indian Film Industry. The actress who had shone to glory with her 'Slumdog Millionaire' appearance hasn't had time to look at Indian cinema until recently. She has been in many of the Hollywood blockbusters and the latest comment from her shows how keen she watches the Hindi films.

Kareena Kapoor has been reportedly given a ransom of Rs. 8Crore for her movie 'Heroine', which is the highest paid to any actress in the industry. And the sum is almost close to the leading male actors fee. She has also managed to give more than 3 films that did a gross of 100 crore rupees in a span of 2 years.

“Taking Indian cinema in consideration, I feel like this year we’ve kind of experienced a shift in humanity. In
India, actually, there has been a large disparity in how much a female and male actor gets paid, but this year, one actress (Kareena Kapoor) changed all that,” she said in an interview to Flaunt magazine.

The 27-year-old Indian beauty also turned retro for a photo spread in a magazine, in which she was photographed in a short raven-haired wig in the 1950s inspired glamorous shoot. The spread has been titled Freida Pinto Is Museum Quality Beautiful.

Pinto who has been involved in severe image makeovers since Slumdog Millionaire was spotted topless in a movie and now she is taking up the bars that restricted her. The latest glamshoot is much awaited by her fans.

She also took the opportunity to clarify her stance on the allegation that she wasn't involved in the promotion of 'The Rise Of Planet Of Apes' in India. The actor, who faced flak for not promoting her film Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) in India, shoots back at the criticism. “When I was promoting this big-budget film, some Indian media reported that I was being a diva on set, and that’s the reason I did not want to come to India to promote the film. I’m like, ‘What? I’m in f***ing America. That’s why I can’t promote the film in India.’ It’s not easy to be in two places at once. It’s just not true.”

Frieda Pinto bares it all??

Esquire magazine must be selling like hot pancackes (Pancake day today, 28th Feb 2012) when people do notice the heroine of 'Slumdog Millionaire' in almost bare stature. It is Freida Pinto who has now decided to do a bare photoshoot and this will be done for the Esquire magazine. The actress gets her shots done by the famous photographer Yu Tsai.

The 27-year old actress will be seen in the April issue of the magazine.

She says it has been a unique experience to start with and says “It was hard but it was a small crew, and they were good at not making their presence felt,” the Daily Mail quoted her as telling Esquire magazine.

“They didn’t go, “Quick! She’s nearly naked! Get your camera out!” she said.

Although this is not her first time bare appearance as we had seen her do this for the movie Immortals and the upcoming movie 'Trishna' directed by Michael Winterbottom, where she does a bold nude scene. There are also rumors that she is using a double for the sequences, but we have no further reports on it yet.

When asked about her bare it all attitude in movies, she strongly says that she wants a strong script and story before asking her to strip out! She says “If you’re just doing a nude scene in order for everyone to, like, w*** off or something, then that’s not my thing at all,”

So thats Freida Pinto for you!

Freida Pinto Not Married!

The strong rumor about Frieda Pinto's marriage has been broken by herself. The news was that Frieda is going to marry her first co-star Dev Patel, the couple had acted together in the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' and they have been thick friends since then. The talents of both actors were highly appreciated during the time and was an attraction to the Oscar circle. The closeness of the two had brought about this rumor which had been quite seriously taken in by everyone.

Yesterday, Frieda mentioned that she is still single and the news about her marriage is false!

She said that she were good friends and she had one of the best times of her life while shooting for Slumdog millionaire, and this bond with Dev Patel is stronger than any other friendship she have. But she mentioned that they are still separate and the answer to marriage question was no, but she also teased the media by mentioning that it doesn't mean that she wont marry him later!

So be it her DNA test (more) or the latest news, she does seem to be keeping in touch with the media and more importantly keeping the limelight!

Freida Pinto's DNA Test

Should you really try this hard?

Freida Pinto, the movie 'slumdog millionaire' star has been in news for her broken relationships, the alleged bare-it-all movies and now she is coming back to the news and this again is not for her movie career, this is for her to find her lineage. She is allegedly going to do a DNA test to find out the details. Speaking to the media Pinto said:

She is often mistaken for her surname 'Pinto' which is typical to Portuguese people. There has also been claims that Freida is having an ethnicity from Portuguese. The actress doesn't feel this right and mentions that she doesn't like to be claimed by other nations. On her recent trips to Istanbul too, there were many conversations made that  Pinto was never an Indian Name.

The actress mentions that she is from Manglore, a South Indian town, which does have many Catholic families residing and these were the ones who had been living there since the British Rule, she also adds that there were many forced conversions happening during the colonial rule which should have applied to her forefathers too. She is already trying hard to explain this part.

She went ahead and mentioned that she would even do a DNA test to gather the lineage and she hopes that she might be a Hindu origin girl, instead of her current status.

We never know! Should one try this hard for a simple issue? Freida believe so!
