Sujoy finally comes up with Badla!

Sujoy Gosh would be one of the script writers who have been constantly questioned by the media on his upcoming project. The script writer who did surprise almost everyone in the film industry with his amazing script 'Kahaani' was being trailed to find what he was planning next. Many had in minds that it will be a sequel to Kahaani, namely 'Kahaani 2'. It was also said that viacom 18 who had produced the movie was careful when selling rights to Tamil and Telugu film makers to avoid any issues to their sequel.

But it turns out that Sujoy has other thoughts in mind and this time he is focusing on casting Amitabh Bachchan as the lead. The movie is now titled as 'Badla' and its still in early stages. He had earlier tweeted about this with a pinch of humor :

"The script that i'm writing for sir is called BADLA, which, if i write well, will have sir and naseer ji & the balan. all depends on script."

Also he did take up the opportunity to clarify that this is not a sequel to 'Kahaani', "BADLA is not the sequel to Kahaani. thats another story altogether. I hope this helps in bringing down the telephone bill :)".

The movie 'Kahaani' was backed up with a fine star cast and some extra ordinary performances by Vidya Balan and this time too, Sujoy doesn't wish to put the stakes down as he still wants the best of performers into the movie and we know he what he is capable of doing.

So eagerly waiting on the next tweet ;-)

Mahesh Bhatt, Subhash Ghai = Casting Couch - true??

Well, atleast the columnist Suhel Seth says it is! Although it was a open secret in the industry the names that have been pulled up by Suhel seems to be grabbing attention, as it is for the first time Mahesh Bhatt is being accused of something of this nature. Subash Ghai had already been in news with a foreign actress mentioning him in her book. The recent observation was made by Suhel Seth, who is also a well known TV personality that the Ghai's and Bhatt's should get out of their casting couches and give opportunity to the better script writers!

This was following the video which was uploaded on May 16th by the columnist who had all praises for Kahaani, which he had recently viewed. He was impressed with the performances and was more happy to find the plot and the style of narration. He has mentioned Sujoy Gosh's talents in many portions and he adds that Vidya Balan is not the only reason he loved the movie, but he was amazed with the way the film had been shot and its brilliant plot.

After he lauds Sujoy Ghosh for the film, he goes ahead and adds, “My appeal to all the Mahesh Bhatts and Subhash Ghais and all the titans would be to get off your casting couch - you`ve been there, done her - and start investing in people who can write good scripts.”

This has turned up as a stir to the industry. Although both Mahesh Bhatt and Subhash Ghai has went ahead declining all claims by Suhel, it is still a mystery which needs to be unveiled. We have seen many actors and lead actresses talk about it in hush, but no one has dared to speak it out.

This time it is much more serious since the honchos of  Bollywood are being brought into the picture! We will still have to wait on what comes of it, or as usual it may precipitate without making much of a talk. Well, truth doesn't stay covered...!

Kahaani recovers its money

Vidya Balan continues to make her hit in the movie Kahaani after the subsequent hits she has made in Ishqiya, No One Killed Jessica and The Dirty Picture. The drama-thriller made at a shoestring budget of Rs.8 crore is receiving positive response from both the critics and audiences. The movie Kahaani collected Rs. 2.95 crore on its opening day itself.

Indian film critic Tarun Adarsh said, “The film has opened very well. The collection in India on Friday was Rs. 2.95 crore and on Saturday it earned Rs. 4.5 crore. A full-pack show was expected on Sunday. The film will definitely survive for over a week.” The Thursday paid preview collections were 00.85 crore, while the expected Sunday collections are close to Rs. 7 crore.

Gautam Dutta, COO, PVR said, “The response we are getting for the film is phenomenal. There are families coming together to watch the movie. And since it is a women-centric film, there are group of females coming to watch the film. We are expecting 80 percent occupancy all over India on the weekend, which is something we did not expect. And the film should be able to do a good business.”

Kahaani is being co-distributed by Pen India Pvt Ltd, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Boundscript Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd.

Delhi based distributor Joginder Mahajan was of the opinion, “Kahaani is a film that is made for serious and sensible cinegoers. Vidya’s performance is being appreciated by audiences. The film is not entertaining like The Dirty Picture and that is why it has a niche audience. But it will not only recover its cost but also earn profits.”

Distributor Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts Ltd said, “It is houseful in multiplexes and we are expecting collection of Rs. 5 crore on Sunday. It is the word of mouth that is bringing people to the theatres.” he added, “Since there is no big release next week, it is expected the movie will earn a good amount of profit.”

Vidya gives 43 interviews in a day

Actress Vidya Balan who got super successful after 'The Dirty Picture' (she even got a National Award for the movie) has been going anywhere and everywhere with her fake baby bump to promote her movie Kahaani which was premiered at Dubai's Grand Cineplex last night.

The 34 year old actress who is being spotted in various parts of the country in search of her missing husband gave 43 interviews in 1 day for the movie Kahaani. But Vidya Balan says these days, everything is fair as far as movie promotions are concerned.

She said, "Promotions can be seen in two ways - either you hate them and they're a burden and you are getting through with it or you can enjoy them. I decided early on that I was going to enjoy them. I did 43 interviews in a day for Kahaani. If I don't enjoy it, it's going to be a disaster... I like meeting people, I like getting to know them, I just like people. So, for me, I take it like I'm chatting with different people. Just that the energy level sometimes drops. After 40 interviews, I couldn't look straight. But, it's okay. It's what I need to do because today there is such an information overload... how does one draw attention to one's film?"

When Vidya was asked about doing the promotions with the fake tummy she said, "What else can I do? The production house and director Sujoy Ghosh were a bit apprehensive about broaching this with me, but when I said yes, they said you've made life easier for us. And I said, but that is the look of the film, so why not."

Vidya says, "What I like about Vidya Bagchi, a heavily pregnant woman whose husband goes missing and she lands in this unknown city to look for him, is that she could have easily been portrayed as this helpless, morose and despondent person. But she's not that. She's positive and confident that her search for her husband and the father of her unborn child will never be futile. What I also like about her is that she still manages to smile, there's no bechaari, laachar aurat here. She doesn't break down when people around her say that her husband doesn't even exist. And that belief is strong because she carries the biggest proof of his existence. She's someone who knows her mind and knows how to fight it out. The script of Kahaani was what compelled me to take it on. If I am the hero of the film, Kolkata is the heroine."

She added, "After The Dirty Picture, i've always felt powerful because the power lies in making my own choices. Even while carting a belly, I feel confident. I've been lucky that I've had different looks in every film. Before the release of The Dirty Picture, I was in polka dots and big sunnies and during Ishqiya promotions I was in those colourful saris and it worked. I have been lucky that each character I played is different from each other."

Vidya Balan may has even bagged all the awards this season for her performance in The Dirty Picture. Yesterday, she has took home The Gr8 Women Awards in a star-studded ceremony at Atlantis. Instituted by Anu and Shashi Ranjan of the Indian Television Academy, the award honours her contribution to the world of cinema and arts. She said, "It's a great feeling. It's even more touching because the award is not just for people in cinema. It honours women who have made a mark for themselves in their chosen fields. It's special and my heartfelt congratulations to all the awardees. Also, my heartfelt congratulations to all those women who stand up for themselves and live life on their own terms."

If this film does well, it will open a whole lot of doors and windows for female actors.

Kahaani witnesses major setback !!!

Sujoy Ghosh's movie Kahaani which was all set to release on 9 th March, 2012 has witnessed a major setback. The Kolkata Metro Western Railway Authority have demanded deletion of an important scene within the next two days. The scene has Vidya standing at the Kalighat platform, waiting to board a train but suddenly a man pushes her on the tracks before a speeding train.

Metro authorities had allowed the film unit to shoot for four days last year at the busy Tollygunje and Kalighat metro stations. Senior officials of the Kolkata Metro Railway happened to watch the promos of Kahaani on YouTube last month and have asked producers of the film to remove the particular clip from their trailers as well as from the film. According to sources filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh didn’t mention this scene when they submitted the script to the Kolkata Railway Authority

Protyush Kumar Ghosh said, "I found the clip objectionable and wrote a letter to the film's director citing our objection to it. We requested him to delete the particular portion and withdraw the promos as it showed the Metro in bad light."

The filmmaker said, "The scene is actually a dream sequence and the scene had been shot using computer-generated imagery technique with the help of some special celluloid effects and no such scene was shot on the Kolkata metro platform."

General Manager P B Murti said, "We are opposed to the scene as we are very concerned about the rate of suicides on the Metro tracks. We know how people get ideas for committing suicide and for other criminal activities." Protyush added, "As it is, there are many cases of suicides on metro tracks. Since the metro railway's inception in 1988, there have been a total of 234 cases registered with the authorities of which, as many as 120 people have died while the remaining 114 passengers have somehow managed to survive."

To which Sujoy Ghosh said: "The scene in the film is not meant to remind people of suicides. Anyways, if anybody has to commit suicide, he will not do it because of my film. As a filmmaker I need to show all sides of a city, including the darker aspects."

The General Manager of Kolkata Metro Railway will see the scene on 7th March and take a final call on the scene.

The movie is based on the real life experiences of novelist Advaita Kala (author of Almost Single), who has penned the script for the film. Kahaani is all about a seven-month pregnant woman who comes alone to Kolkata from London in search of her husband, just the way Advaita had landed in Kolkata from the US to work at the Oberoi Grand hotel. She was retracing the footsteps of her then boyfriend who had worked at the same hotel a year ago.

Vidya continues her search for missing husband

Yes, that has been what the actress is doing for promoting her next movie 'Kahaani' in which she plays the character who comes to Kolkatta in search of her husband. And during the promotions of the movie Vidya Balan has tookup a mock search across north India in search of her husband and make the idea reach the mass in her own style. This started with her Dirty Picture promos, where she had performed, dressed like Silk Smitha on the dance floor in Malls.

When asked about if she got the idea from where Aamir had left his film promotions, she was open enough to confirm that she was extremely impressed with the actor and was silently following him "Of course, I do follow his style for film promos. And not just that, I have no qualms in saying that I'm hugely inspired by Aamir Khan even though I have not worked with him as yet," says Vidya.

Aamir Khan, during promotion of his movie 'Ghajini' had come up with his bald look and also had shaved the fan heads to resemble his looks. The media had also asked her about her latest style of movies that she is performing which requires less a presence of a male protagonist, she was quick to respond her views and she says "No, I don't feel so. Its just that, for the past few films I have been getting strong roles and so people have started saying that when I do a film there is no need of a male counterpart. I suffice as the hero. But I feel that every field requires a natural balance of men and women."

She also took time to promote her next item number, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, and says "Please don't say it's an item number," Vidya hastened to call out before adding, "I prefer to call it a special appearance. Having said that, I'm sure the audience will love my dance, inspired by a folk art form, in the film. As for sexy moves, even though I'm fully clad the sensuality, the sexy moves and my expressions are enough to display oomph."

Vidya will be doing Ghanchakkar with Emran Hashmi next and there are rumors that she will be the main lead in Sudhir Mishra's, 'Mehrunnissa' but Vidya hasn't confirmed this yet A lot people have been asking me about "Mehrunissa" but till now I have not signed it. Sudhir ji may be planning to approach me but he has not done so."

Jhankaar beats sequel cooking??

Jhankaar Beats might come back with a sequel after a decade of its musical success. The movie had showed friends who were dedicating their life for the band and the music which they believed. Earlier this week, Pritish Nandy had announced that the sequel to this movie is in the making and might show the after life of friends from where they stopped.

Sujoy Ghosh is said to be the director for the movie and he will be working on the project as soon as his movie Kahaani, a Vidya Balan starrer, hits the screens. "Both Pritish Nandy as well as Sujoy are gung ho about the prospects of bringing the film back to the audience. Close to a decade has gone by since JHANKAAR BEATS was released and now there is good enough platform to move the story forward and check out what this loveable bunch of friends are up to," says a source close to the production house.

The star cast of the movie will have a change over as few actors like Rinkie Khanna and Shayan Munshi are already separated themselves from the performance career. Although it is said to have Sanjay Suri and Juhi Chawla, playing the couple and parents of a teenage daugher. It will also have Rahul Bose, Riya Sen and other crew with most probability. The music will be done by Vishal - Shekhar who had gained much popularity through the original version of Jhankaar Beats.

Vishal - Shekhar also shares a special bond with the director and has been part of his projects through Kahaani, Home Delivery and Aladin. So we will have to wait on Sujoy to officially confirm on what the project is about and when it will start off, currently he is busy with post-production of Kahaani.

Vidya Balan - The Female Hero in town!

It is how her charisma has worked out as Vidya Balan continues to grow up as an actor and is gaining more recognition with each step she takes. Vidya has been praised by many for the strong female roles that she take up and the image that she has put up on the big screen for herself.

Its not the first time that she is recognized among the big stars, but recently on the audio launch of Vidya's upcoming movie 'Kahaani', the music directors decided to make it clear further for the audience. Shekhan Rajviani announced "If we are taking about female population, now we know that we have a female hero here with us who has taken over. I think with all the Khans and the Kapoors, we have Vidya Balan now,"

Another recognition for the great actress who had a good run through hit charts the previous year and is going to continue doing that with her upcoming movie 'Kahaani'.

Amitabh sings Ekla Cholo for Kahani

Amitabh Bachchan is all set to make another super hit with his singing as he completes the song for the Vidya Balan starrer 'Kahaani', on tuesday the superstar posted "Just back from work, music lets you forget time! Vishal (Dadlani) and Shekhar (Ravjiani) have done a most inspiring Ekla Cholo... for the film Kahaani, grateful to be a part of Tagore’s masterpiece!"

The song seems to be too tough one to start with and Amitabh ji mentioned that he is ready to get it re recorded until he finds it perfect, but the director Sujoy seems to be happy with the current set. Amit ji says “A Rabindra Sangeet has a structure that is unlike that of a normal Hindi film song,”  adding that though he had recorded the song to Sujoy’s satisfaction, he himself wasn’t happy. “I plan to re-record it, again and again if necessary, till I get it right. Otherwise, not just by the Bengalis who consider me their ‘jamai babu’ (son-in-law), my head will be chopped off in my own house.”

The director feels that this song was essential for the movie, he says that when the worldly-wise pessimism around her is a downer and Vidya needs someone who will tell her, ‘If no one listens to your call, walk alone, don’t be afraid…’ “That message is inherent in Tagore’s Jodi Tor Daak Shune Keu Na Aashe Tobe Ekla Cholo Re… but to convey it I needed a commanding voice that you would listen to and believe in and whose better than Mr Bachchan’s,” reasons Sujoy. “It’s a bonus that he also happens to be a very good singer.”

Its my character that is sex icon - Vidya

The lavish shows and dances in the movie The Dirty Picture and the sexy bold shows through out the movie trailers has given the tag of 'sex icon' to Vidya Balan. She has contributed a lot to the image of Silk Smitha herself who was known for her beauty and sexy acts.

Vidya gets giggly when asked about her role and she mentioned "I am anxious," said Vidya, "All of us have worked hard. We've all given this movie our cent per cent. Let's hope it all pays off and people like what we have made."

When asked about people calling her the sex icon she said "Sex icon, me? It's my character they find sexy. But it's quite flattering. I've always maintained that Indian women are beautiful. They are the epitome of womanhood with their curves in the right place."

Vidya has reportedly gotten on 12Kg's of weight for the movie and she is getting ready for workouts as soon as the movie releases and she wants to get back in shape(really??). "It was tough and unwanted, but it had to be done. I'm going to start working out after the release of the movie, and hopefully will get back to what I used to be," she says.

Vidya will next be seen in 'Kahaani'. "It's another movie that's very close to my heart. Let's take it one at a time."
