India Leads Top In ICC Rankings, Jadeja Voted Top Bowler

Dubai, Sep 1: India have retained their top position in the ICC ODI team rankings table while Virat Kohli remained the highest-ranked Indian batsman at the fourth spot in the latest list issued today.

India, who have been in the number one position since February 2013 when they beat England 3-2 at home to regain the top place, have 123 rating points to their credit, ahead of Australia (114) and England (112).

While Kohli managed to maintain his position in the ICC Player Rankings for ODI Batsmen, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni also retained his seventh spot in the top-10 list, which still has South Africa's Hashim Amla sitting at the top.

Meanwhile, the bowlers' chart is still headed by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja with 733 points. Jadeja will have the first shot at an outright lead at the top of the tree when he's expected to take the field against Australia in Pune on October 13.

West Indies' Sunil Narine continues to lead the bowlers' table, followed by Saeed Ajmal of Pakistan in second place and England's Steven Finn in third spot. In the ODI All-rounders' list also Jadeja has remained at third position, while Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez has gained four points to reclaim the number-one ranking.

Hafeez, who won the player of the series award for his 232 runs and two wickets in Pakistan's 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in three One-dayers, has leapfrogged Shakib Al Hasan, Ravindra Jadeja, Shane Watson and Tillakaratne Dilshan after earning 26 ratings points.

Later that day, Australia will face Ashes foes England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground -- also the venue for the day-night final match of the flagship tournament of the 50-over game on March 29.

"The 2015 tournament will mark 40 years since the first World Cup in 1975 and that history of great contests and heroes helps make the tournament what it is - the most sought-after prize in our increasingly global game," said ICC chief executive David Richardson.

"I'm absolutely confident that the success of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will further strengthen the status of 50-over cricket as a successful and viable format alongside Tests and Twenty20 Internationals."

Australia and New Zealand, whose prime ministers attended launches at simultaneous events in Melbourne and Wellington, are grouped with England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and two qualifiers in the contest, held once every four years.

Title-holders India are pooled with Pakistan, South Africa, the West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland and one other qualifying team...

Cricket: Clarke's Misery with the Ashes cup 2013

Australian captain Michael Clarke looked shattered at his post-match conference after his side lost yet another one-sided Test Match to England by 347 runs, very different from the last Ashes Test at Trent Bridge where the margin was just 14 runs.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, when Clarke was asked if he intended to emulate the last Australian captain to endure six defeats in a row, he cracked a grim smile, adding that every team he had been part of had lost and it was extremely tough.

Clarke added that it was personal when someone was the captain of the team but he felt the same when he was just a player and they lost.

The Australian batting problems were laid bare when the tourists were bowled out for 128 in the first innings littered with self-inflicted dismissals with Clarke saying he was as responsible as others, the report said...

Sports : Bell to the rescue, scores century, stabilize England : Cricket News

Ian Bell's third century in consecutive Ashes Tests led an England recovery on Day One of the second Test against Australia at Lord's on Thursday, as the home side reached 289-7 at stumps.

Cricket News: Bell came to the crease with his team in deep trouble on 28-3, but his innings of 109 that spanned just over five hours, frustrated the Australians when they would have scented an England capitulation.

Jonny Bairstow hit 67 and contributed to a fifth-wicket partnership of 144 with Bell. But his late dismissal to a full toss from part-time leg-spinner Steve Smith, and the subsequent fall of Matt Prior, undermined England's rear-guard effort as Smith ended with 3-18.

Tim Bresnan, on 7, and night-watchman James Anderson, on 4, were the not out batsmen at close on a day the Australians had the best of, considering they lost the toss and had to bowl in hot, sunny conditions on a batsman-friendly pitch. Recalled fast bowler Ryan Harris claimed 3-43.

Bell's latest century took him level with Leonard Hutton on England's list of test centurions, with 19, while he also became the eighth England batsman to go past 1,000 test runs at Lord's. But his 211-ball innings that included 16 boundaries meant much more than historical success...
