Shashi Kapoor undergoes surgery

According to the latest reporst Shashi Kapoor recently underwent a cataract surgery. The surgery took place on Friday at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.

74 year old Shashi Kapoor was admitted and discharged the same day. The operation was successful and the actor is fine now.The surgery was performed by Dr. Seema Behi, ophthalmologist at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital. The doctor said he is doing fine. 

Dr Ram Narain, COO, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital said that, "He underwent a cataract surgery at the hospital. He is doing well and was discharged today." 

Born as Balbir Raj Prithviraj Kapoor, on March 18, 1938 in Calcutta, he came to be known as Shashi Kapoor. Right from the age of four, Shashi had started acting in his plays directed and produced by his dad Prithviraj Kapoor, while travelling with Prithvi Theatres. He was acting in both, the plays, as well as the films, where he had small roles to play.He got opportunity to work as assistant director in films with his brother Raj Kapoor as the lead hero like Dulha Dulhan, Shriman Satyawadi.

Shashi Kapoor started acting in films as a child in the early 1940s appearing in several mythological films. His best known performances were in Aag (1948) and Awaara (1951). He made his debut as a leading man in the 1961 Yash Chopra film Dharmputra and went on to appear in 168 films. He was a very popular actor in Bollywood during the 1960s, 1970s and the mid 1980s. 

In 2011, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. He was also honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the 55th annual award ceremony in the year 2010.

He is the youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor and the brother of Raj and Shammi Kapoor. He is the widower of British actress Jennifer Kendal, who died of cancer in 1984. The couple has three children together- Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor.

Shashi Kapoor celebrates his 74th birthday



Actor Shashi Kapoor celebrated his 74th Birthday this Sunday. Amitabh Bachchan wished him good health and happiness, he tweeted, “Shashiji’s birthday today…spent some of the most wonderful moments in films we did together…good health and happiness to him.”

Shashi Kapoor formed a hit on screen pair with Rakhee, Sharmila Tagore, Zeenat Aman in the late sixties till the mid eighties. He is remembered for many hit Hindi films like Jab Jab Phool Khile, Kanyadaan, Pyar Ka Mausam, Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati , Haseena Maan Jayegi, Sharmeelee, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Fakira, Phaansi, Chor Machaye Shor, Mukti, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Heeralal Pannalal, Junoon, Swayamvar and many such films, including ones he starred in with Pran like Chori Mera  Kaam, Phaansi, Shankar Dada, Chakkar Pe Chakkar and with Amitabh Bachchan, such as Deewar, Namak Halaal. He has also played leading roles in a number of English-speaking Indian films, including the very first Merchant Ivory production The Householder followed by such as Shakespeare-Wallah, Bombay Talkie, Heat and Dust, etc. He accepted very few roles as a character actor in films since 1987.

In 2011, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. The actor was last seen in public in a wheelchair at the prayer meet of his brother Shammi Kapoor, who died Aug 14 last year.
