Micromax Canvas LapTab : With Dual Boot for Android and Windows 8.1 - Amazing!

Micromax displays the convertible LapTab which can dual boot to Android or Win 8.1 depending on the user choice. The product comes as a perfect switchover between a laptop and a tablet computer. Micromax, the popular Indian mobile and tablet brand, has started its CES 2014 campaign with the unveiling of the Canvas LapTab tablet.

The highlighted dual boot is the catch for the product, although the brand has not updated which version of android will be active, we are expecting it to be more Jelly Bean than Kit Kat Version. The 10 inch tab will feature a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. This may be a bit of drawback considering that full HD tabs are ruling the market.

On the camera front, the tablet sports a 2-megapixel camera on both the rear and front panels. The tablet is powered by a 1.46GHz processor (unspecified cores, chipset) alongside 2GB of RAM. The Canvas LapTab also comes with 32GB built-in storage, with no word on expandable storage.

The LapTab comes with a transleeve which can be combined as a cover and stand for the wireless keyboard. Consumers will also have an option to buy a customised keyboard for LapTab when it hits the stands.

The tab will have bluetooth 4.0 and wifi connectivity features.

"Over the past few years, we have been witnessing a growing trend of increasing consumer demand for two operating systems in one device, which offers a blend of great PC like productivity in a tablet like form factor for seamless consumption," Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma said.

Combining functionality and style, the LapTab further builds on the promise to constantly empower our users with superior technology that directly addresses their needs, he added.

Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition): PHONE vs. TABLET

Youtube Rating: 4.8 out of 5 (395 ratings)

The new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition comes in three different flavors sharing a quite similar design to the Galaxy Note 3 phablet. There is a Wi-Fi-only version and a 3G-enabled model, both powered by Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa chipset, as well as an LTE-capable tablet with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 800 chipset ticking inside.

The one we're reviewing is the Exynos 5 version and here goes the spec sheet.

The latest in processing power is not a bragging right - more a necessity really - considering there are more than a handful of potential competitors powered by either Snapdragon 800 or Tegra 4. And not Androids only, the likes of the Lumia 2520 and the Surface too. The iPad Air certainly doesn't come underpowered either.

But the choice of chipset(s) isn't the only lesson learned from the previous Note 10.1. This time around, the screen resolution too is at the top of what's currently available in the tablet segment. Samsung have also thrown in a massive 8220mAh battery in a body that's more compact, slimmer and weighing less than the predecessor's. The 2014 Edition Note 10.1 couldn't have hoped for a better start and the praise the Note 3 is getting will put even more wind in its sails.

Amazon Launched Kindle Fire HDX : Lighter, packed with Features

Amazon is refreshing its line-up of tablet computers with new devices called Kindle Fire HDX, which are significantly faster and lighter than the previous generation.

The 7-inch and 8.9-inch versions also have sharper, more colorful displays than older models, and both have more pixels per inch than the latest iPad.

To help those who are unfamiliar with tablets, the new Kindles come with a feature called “Mayday”, which allows users to summon a live customer service representative in a tiny video window. The helpers can explain new features or troubleshoot problems while guiding users with on-screen hand scribbles. They can even take control of the device from afar.

CEO Jeff Bezos introduced the feature to reporters on Tuesday, saying it is “completely unique” and takes advantage of Amazon’s massive cloud computing and customer service infrastructure. It also builds on Amazon.com Inc.’s reputation for excellent customer service. “You shouldn’t have to be afraid of your device,” Mr. Bezos said.

While the new Kindles are upgraded in several ways, Amazon also cut the price on what will be its entry-level 7-inch tablet, the Kindle Fire HD with 8 gigabytes of memory, to $139 from a $199 version that had 16 GB of memory. That makes the tablet just $20 more than Amazon’s latest dedicated e-reader, the Kindle Paperwhite. The Kindle Fire HD is sheathed in a new magnesium alloy body like the HDX models, but has the same screen resolution and processing power of the older model.

Stephen Baker, a consumer technology analyst with research firm NPD Group, said the price cut to the Kindle Fire HD will do more to help Amazon compete in the tablet market than the added features on the newer models. “That’s where that model needs to be priced,” Mr. Baker said, explaining that there are numerous manufacturers with tablets with screens that measure 7 inches diagonally ll priced around $150. “A big focus in that 7-inch category is just price.”

In the May-July period, Kindles accounted for 17 percent of all tablets sold in the U.S., compared to 48 percent for Apple’s iPad and 8 percent for Samsung’s Galaxy line, according to NPD.

The Kindle HDX models come with Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, which is top of the line for tablets. Amazon said they are three times faster than the older Kindle Fire line. For graphics functions, the HDX models are four times faster than before.

Beyond the improved specifications, Amazon also unveiled more features that incorporate data from its IMDb movie database subsidiary. With the newer tablets, users who turn on the “X-ray” feature can see a small window that lists the name of a song that is playing in some TV shows and movies. One tap brings up the option to buy the song. Users can also look for all music in a show and zip to the exact spot where a particular song is playing.

LG All Set To Reveal 8.3Inch Tab In Germany

LG on Sunday revealed more details about the 8.3-inch tablet it plans to show off at this week's IFA trade show in Berlin.

The LG G Pad 8.3 tablet is the first 8-inch tablet to offer a Full HD display, the company said. It sports a 1,920-by-1,200 display with 273 pixels per inch. There's a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing device for video chat.

The G Pad runs a 1.7GHz, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. There's 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 4,600mAh battery.

LG said the G Pad builds on the recent release of the G2 smartphone. "Complementing our G Series smartphones, the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 further strengthens LG's premium lineup consisting of our most cutting-edge devices," Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Mobile, said in a statement. "Our G Pad is just another example of LG delivering devices with the unique selling points consumers around the world will appreciate."
IFA Bug 2013

To that end, the QPair app will allow for calls and messages received on a smartphone to show up on the LG Pad, from which users can also reply. The feature will work with non-LG smartphones, though a Jelly Bean-based gadget is recommended, LG said.

Similarly, the QMemo app will also sync notes between devices. For multi-tasking, QSlide will allow for up to three apps to run at once; slide unneeded apps off to the side with a three-finger swipe. The KnockON feature turns the device on and off when the user taps the display twice.

LG touted a slim and sleek form factor that's comfortable to hold in one hand, despite its 8.3-inch frame. "The LG G Pad 8.3 squeezes in a powerful 4600mAh battery for long-lasting usage time but is still as light as a newspaper at just 338g," the company said.

LG said the G Pad will come in black or white and roll out in North America, Europe, Asia, and elsewhere in the fourth quarter. Pricing was not discussed.
