Science : Pictures of Earth 900 million miles away - Cassini Spacecraft

Carl Sagan once referred to the Earth as "where we make our stand."

And when seen by NASA's Cassini spacecraft from over 900 million miles away, that pale, blue dot he described suddenly makes sense. It's home -- but just one tiny speck barely visible in the infinite reach of space.

High above the planet Saturn on Friday, Cassini took photographs of that pixel we live on, backlit by Saturn's rings. If you looked at the skies, chances are you were photographed from space by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, almost a billion miles away. You’re not the only one.

For the first time in the nine years the spacecraft had been in orbit, Earth’s inhabitants knew that their photos would be taken and came out to take part in “The Day that the Earth Smiled.” Scientists knew this and a social media campaign had been waged in the weeks prior, urging Earthlings to participate in the worldwide event.

Esha's grand reception

Actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini hosted a grand reception for their daughter and new son-in-law in Mumbai on Saturday night.

Esha married fiance Bharat Takthani on Friday 29th June, 2012 in a traditional south Indian style wedding.

The reception was held on 30th June, 2012. It was a European style reception with celestial white decor, that translated into the use of crystals and over one lakh white roses. The grand reception was held at a suburban five star hotel. Esha looked stunning in the outfit she clad which was designed by Rocky S, a quaint rose pink corset teamed with Swarovski studded mermaid style lehenga in matching hues. The groom Bharat Takhtani was donned in a black suit with a white shirt designed by Simone. 

Dharmendra said that, "I am very happy that my daughter has got married and it is her reception today. I have got a very nice son-in-law."

Hema Malini, who was looking gorgeous in a cream emroidered sari which was designed by designer Neeta Lulla.

More than 1000 people, including politicians, corporate personalities and the Bollywood celebs like veteran actors Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu, Jeetendra with wife Shobha Kapoor and son Tushar Kapoor, Sanjay Khan, new Rajya Sabha MP Rekha, and Zeenat Aman. A little younger group included stars like Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit with her hubby Dr. Nene, Sushmita Sen, Tabu, Kajol, Tanuja, Tanisha, Mandira Bedi, Anupam Kher, Fardeen Khan Zayed Khan and Sridevi with Bobby Kapoor. Salman Khan, who had taken charge of Esha's wedding celebrations, was also present. 

Actress Saira Banu, who was wearing an orange sari, said that, "We are very happy for Esha and Bharat. We wish them good luck and this is going to be very happy for them."

While Bollywood celebs started arriving after 10 pm, the earlier part of the evening saw political biggies arriving to bless the couple.

From the political gang senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Raj Thackeray, Sushma Swaraj, LK Advani, Uddhav Thackeray, Amar Singh, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Narayan Rani, Suresh Kalmadi and many others were present.

Hema Malini's younger daughter Ahaana was spotted sporadically with her friends.

Inside the main venue, a separate passageway was made to take VIP guests straight to the stage. While Dharmendra dutifully carried out his responsibilities as the father of the bride, guests just couldn't resist shaking hands with him, and posing for pictures with him.

In between meeting guests, Esha was seen jiggying to the live music there. Unfortunately, it seems that with the sheer number of guests waiting to meet them, Bharat and Esha couldn't manage to hit the dance floor.

Esha gets married

Star kid Esha Deol got married to Bandra based diamond merchant Bharat Takhtani on 29th June, 2012 at the Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple which is located at Juhu. Esha Deol tied the knot Bharat Takhtani in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony.

Bharat came to the venue on a white horse after which Hema Malini and Dharmendra welcomed the groom with aarti and garlands at the temple. After which Esha and Bharat exchanged garlands. A priest from the Tirupati temple at Andhra Pradesh was bought to Mumbai by Hema Malini to perform the rites for the wedding. The wedding rites were all South Indian which also included the vratham ceremony where a sacred yellow thread is tied on the wrists of the bride and groom and they are not permitted to leave the marriage venue. The 'palika' ceremony (sprinkling of nine varieties of grains) for the prosperity of the couple's new life together is conducted simultaneously with the 'vratham'. 

Esha was carried in a doli decorated by flowers. The rites and rituals also included the oonjal ceremony, kanyadhanam, saptapadhi. Abhay Deol performed the laaja homam, where the bride gives an offering of puffed rice to the fire. The bidaai took place in the evening from Hema Malini's Juhu residence.

Hema Malini was seen wearing a pink and orange Kanjeevaram saree along with a Vishnu Dasavataram gold and gem-studded necklace and her husband Dharmendra wore a beige suit with a pale blue shirt. Bharat wore an off-white sherwani with a brown brocade jacket in South Indian style with a stole. Esha Deol was looking gorgeoud in a red and gold Kanjeevaram saree. The saree was specially created out of three Kanjeevaram sarees selected by Hema Malini and Neeta Lulla from Chennai. Hema Malini, her daughters Esha and Ahana and Bharat all wore outfits which were designed by Neeta Lulla.

The wedding venue at Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple was the Padma Palace. It is said that the Padma Palace is a replica of the spot where Krishna and Rukmini had got married in Dwarka. The mandap was decorated with garlands of orange marigolds and pink lotuses. Huge balls of yellow and orange marigolds and pink and orange fluorescent lights also decorated the Palace. There were silver chairs for the parents, while Esha and Bharat sat on cream coloured seats.

Several B-town celebraties were present at the ceremony which included Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, Nita Ambani, Subrata Roy, Rani Mukerji, Anu Malik, Fardeen Khan, Vinod and Kavita Khanna and Vyjayanthi-mala (who specially flew down from Chennai to bless the couple). 

Abhay Deol said that, "I am very much happy for Esha...it is a very happy occasion for all of us. I am happy that she is getting settled."

Actor Manoj Kumar said that, "I am here as a family member to give my blessings to the couple."

Actress Vyjayanthimala said, "wonderful couple"

During the wedding special coconut water with rose petals and watermelon juice was served along with an assortment of vegetarian snacks after which a lavish lunch was served on the temple premises.

The reception will take place on 30th June, 2012 at a suburban five-star hotel. It is expected to be attended by more than a thousand guests, comprising Hema Malini and Dharmendra’s contacts from politics, business and the film industy (both Bollywood and South Indian).

Shilpa's baby shower

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra had her baby shower on 3rd May, 2012. It was held at Shilpa and her husband Raj Kundra's Mumbai residence in Juhu.

Bollywood celebreties Sameera Reddy, Manyata Dutt,Malaika Arora Khan, Raveena Tandon, Neha Dhupia, Farah Khan and many others from B town were also present to shower their blessings on the mommy to be. 

Farah Khan had come with her three kids for the party as she feels that bringing children to baby shower brings good luck. She said that, "I have got a gift for Shilpa's baby, that's between Shilpa and me. But I think it's good luck to bring children to a baby shower and that's why I have brought my three children along with me. I am sure they will bring a lot of good luck for Shilpa's baby."

The baby shower was organized by Shilpa's sister Shamita Shetty and friends Kiran Bawa and Rupali Shah. The ceremony was strictly for women but daddy to be Raj Kundra gatecrashed the baby shower bash as he didn't want to miss out on the ceremony. 

Raj said that, "It felt fantastic, I felt like Kishen Kanhaiya amongst so many women. I gatecrashed. I said, I have also contributed to this, so I also want to go to this party."

He added, "It was very nice. Shamita organised it really well and Kiran Bawa and Rupali Shah also contributed to this wonderful baby shower."

When asked whether he he wanted a boy or a girl, he said that, "Everyone asks me do you want a boy or a girl? I really don't mind, it should be a healthy baby. But whatever it is this time, I want its opposite the next time." 

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra got married in November 2009 and Shilpa is currently in her ninth month of pregnancy and she is expected to give birth to her baby in end of May.
