Pak Troops Targets Indian Posts Again in Poonch

Jammu: After a three-day lull, Pakistani troops today violated the ceasefire twice targeting forward Indian posts with small arms fire in two sub-sectors along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

The Pakistani soldiers opened unprovoked firing on Indian posts in Balakote sub-sector at around 1113 hours and in Mendhar at 1 PM, Defence spokesman S N Acharya said.

The Indian troops fired back effectively, he said adding there was no loss of life or damage to property in the two sub-sectors.

“Violating the ceasefire, Pak troops fired from small arms and automatic weapons on Indian forward posts along the LoC in Mendhar sub-sector,” Acharya said.

“They targeted the Indian posts from 1300 hours to 1400 hours drawing strong retaliation from our soldiers,” he said.

Earlier, Pakistani troops opened small arms firing on four Indian forward posts in Balakote sub-sector at around 1113 hours.

The two ceasefire violations took place after three days of lull along the LoC.

Guns fell silent after Pakistani troops fired on Indian positions in Pallanwala sub-sector in Jammu district on August 29.

2 Militants Shot Dead @ JK's Kupwara by Indian Army : National Desk

Indian Army jawans gunned down two terrorists in the wee hours of Wednesday when the latter were trying to sneak into the Indian territory of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation in Keran sector is still on. The number of militants killed during infiltration bid in the last two months has risen to 21.

Army sources said that a group of militants tried to enter the Indian territory around 3 in the morning. But ‘ustad brigade’ of the army shot them dead.

The incident comes just a week after Pakistani soldiers killed 5 Indian jawans 400 metres inside the Indian territory in the Poonch sector on August 5.

The attack came as the two countries were moving towards resuming peace talks in September on the sidelines of United Natiions General Assembly. The talks were stalled after a series of deadly border clashes in January this year.

The Indian army said the killing of five soldiers was an act of revenge by Pakistan against the killing of 19 militants during their infiltration attempts in the preceding weeks.

There have been 57 ceasefire violations by Pakistan this year which, the army says, is almost 80% more than the last year.

Recent infiltration bids
Pakistan militants have made several infiltration bids in July and August, specially in Tangdhar, Keran and Kupwara sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.

On July 29, the army foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector along the Line of Control, killing a militant in the operation and the very next day (July 30), Indian armed forces faced two infiltration bids in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. The army foiled their attempt to barge into the Indian territory and gunned down two militants.

On August 2, 2013, the militants tried to execute a major infiltration plan at Tangdhar sector. However, Indian army jawans made them retreat after a fierce exchange of fire, killing one militant on the spot...

LoC Tension : Pak Accuses India for Shelling, Tension grows : National Desk

Pakistan accused Indian troops of firing shells across the disputed border in Kashmir on Monday and tensions ran high in both countries after last week's killing of Indian soldiers set off a wave of skirmishes between the two nuclear-armed rivals.

Clashes flared along the 740-km (445-mile) Line of Control that divides Kashmir on August 6 when five Indian soldiers were ambushed and killed in the Poonch region. New Delhi blamed the attack on the Pakistan army. Islamabad denied involvement.

While tit-for-tat shelling and machinegun fire are common along the LoC the current round of fighting is one of the most intense since a ceasefire signed in 2003. It has been linked to protests in both countries and rowdy scenes in India's parliament. Under pressure from opposition politicians, the government has hinted at retaliation.

On Monday, a Pakistani army official said a civilian was killed as a result of "unprovoked Indian shelling" in the Battal, Chirikot and Satwal sectors.

"Pakistan troops effectively responded to Indian firing," the official said.

Islamabad summoned India's deputy high commissioner (ambassador) to Pakistan to register its concern over the death, the Pakistani foreign office said. It also called for strengthening military mechanisms to stop truce violations.

A spokesman for the Indian Defence Ministry offered a different version of events on the Kashmir frontier. He said Indian posts came under heavy mortar and automatic weapon fire overnight in the same area and that India "responded effectively." He said no damage or injuries were reported on the Indian side.

The disputed Himalayan region was split between India and Pakistan in 1948 but they both claim it in its entirety.

They have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir and India accuses Pakistan of supporting separatist rebels fighting its rule in its part of Kashmir since 1989.

The two armies have been exchanging fire on the front line since Tuesday, straining the ceasefire that has largely held for nearly a decade.

Within India, as the mood hardens, Pakistan's national airline, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), said it had tightened security at its office in New Delhi after two men sprayed black paint on the walls and dropped a note of warning at the door.

"Pakistan must immediately stop attacking Indian soldiers and violating the ceasefire agreement, and until they do that, they will not be allowed to operate any office on India's sacred soil," said the statement, signed by the Delhi unit of the hardline Hindu nationalist Shiv Sena...

News : Pak breaks ceasefire at LoC, 5 Indian Soldiers Killed

JAMMU: Pakistani troops attacked an Indian post along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir late on Monday night, killing five Indian soldiers.

Defence sources said on Tuesday the Pakistani soldiers intruded into the Indian territory past midnight and ambushed the Sarla post on the Indian side of the LoC.

Five Indian soldiers were killed, the sources said. Chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, "(I) was briefed early this morning about the news that five of our soldiers had been killed on the LoC. My heartfelt condolences to their next of kin.

"These incidents don't help efforts to normalise or even improve relations with Pak and call in to question the Pak Govt's recent overtures," he said.

Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh is taking stock of the situation, Army sources said in Delhi.

The incident could cast a shadow on the resumption of the Indo-Pak dialogue process expected later this month. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif are slated to meet in New York next month on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

The incident comes hours after a BSF jawan was injured in firing from across Indo-Pak border in Samba district of J&K.

"There was sniper firing from some persons at around 15:55 hours from Pakistan side along the international border (IB) at Narainpur border out post (BOP) area in Ramgarh sector," a senior BSF officer said...
