Chennai Express Over 100 Crore First Weekend : Bollywood Desk

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest release 'Chennai Express' recorded a roaring Rs. 100.42 crore at the box office in its first weekend itself. But there is something else which is making the Bollywood Badshah happier.

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest release 'Chennai Express' recorded a roaring Rs. 100.42 crore at the box office in its first weekend itself. But there is something else which is making the Bollywood Badshah happier.

SRK is over the moon with the way the audience is enjoying the action comedy entertainer, directed by Rohit Shetty.

"If we will only think about the record, then we can sit at home. It happens very rarely that a film is loved like this way and this is what I am liking about the whole thing," Shah Rukh told reporters here after watching the audience's reaction live at a theatre Sunday.

He also shared that the last time he went into a theatre while the audience was watching his film was for 'Chak De! India'.

"I remember the last film I went and saw in London in theatres was 'Chak De! India'. Before that I saw 'DDLJ' ('Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge') in Rajasthan," he added.

"There are some films which make people happy and you like to hear it, feel it... not for any other reason but because it's your product and it feels good to see that people are enjoying it," he added.

Also starring Deepika Padukone, the movie is a co-production by Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment and UTV Motion Pictures...

Bollywood : Chennai Express:Film publicity has become a monster, says Rohit Shetty

New Delhi: Rohit Shetty is not new to the 100 crore club but the 'Chennai Express' director says the new benchmark means film publicity gets bigger everyday.

New Delhi: Rohit Shetty is not new to the 100 crore club but the 'Chennai Express' director says the new benchmark means film publicity gets bigger everyday.

The director, whose last two releases 'Singham' and 'Bol Bachchan' crossed the magic figure at the box office, has been frantically promoting 'Chennai Express' with its actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone everywhere.

"Film publicity has become a monster. I keep joking with my team that a film should have two directors like directed by and promoted by. It almost takes two months to promote a film and then you have to deal with so many speculations. You have to live with that and fight that. You are losing sleep even before the Friday," Shetty told PTI.

The director, 40, is famous for his slightly over-the-top films like 'Golmaal', 'All the Best' and 'Singham'.

He has so far managed to win the heart of his audience despite often not getting good reviews, thus earning the tag of 'critic proof'. But Shetty is aware that he has to break his own record with his upcoming release to prove himself at the box office. "This 100 crore thing has become a burden for me now. If my film makes 99.9 crores, it will be a hit but people will say 'Oh, it did not make 100 crores'. The scary part about our job is that it depends on a Friday. With two Fridays gone, you are back to where you started," says the director, who was in the city to promote the film, releasing this Friday.

'Chennai Express' is releasing with 3700 prints in India and the solo release is slated to earn the added bonus of a festive Weekend due to Eid. It is also getting a wide release in countries like Germany, UK and US.

Multiplexes have decided to increase the ticket price for the SRK starrer but Shetty is confident that his audience will come to watch the film.

"I may look insane to make the kind of movies I make but children love my films and they are clean entertainers. I know that a middle class family is spending extra on watching this film so I want them to enjoy it. It is very important for me as a director."...

Bollywood : Chennai Express - Deepika and SRK costumes to be Auctioned

The outfits donned by Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in forthcoming film 'Chennai Express' will be auctioned, and proceedings from the sale will go for a charity.

The auction will take place around the movie's release August 9. The film is directed by Rohit Shetty, and it is said to be an action romantic comedy.

A source close to the team said, "People are really appreciating the different look that is donned by the actors in the film. With so much appreciation, the makers are planning to auction some of the costumes from the film and extend the proceedings for charity."

Chennai Express Game Launched

Bollywood superstar and gizmo enthusiast Shah Rukh Khan has launched an official game ahead of the release of his forthcoming movie "Chennai Express". He made the event exciting by challenging director Rohit Shetty for a match.

Shah Rukh showed off his gaming skills as he challenged Shetty to compete with him in the game - "Chennai Express: Escape from Rameshwaram". He says "to capture a movie in a game format is one of the most difficult and creatively challenging things to do".

"The movie has a vision and a theme, which a game needs to carry forward and keep the gamer engrossed in. The 'Chennai Express' game captures the theme, the graphics and the mood of the movie brilliantly," Shah Rukh said in a statement.

"I had a lot of fun being a part of the process of making this game. Hopefully the avid gamers will find this one as much fun as I do," he added.

Developed by Disney UTV's Digital arm, the game has so far been launched on feature phones and Android phones, while its iOS version will hit the markets closer to the movie's release Aug 9...( Read More)

Ajay Devgan in legal trouble for SOS

506073_Free Customization
It seems that the funny introduction to the Son Of Sardar trailer did not go all that well for Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty. The comic part of the introduction which had a negative impact on the Sikh community has retracted back with a legal notice from senior lawyer Navkiran Singh.

The trailer was not a big hit and this seems to have delayed the retractions from the community. (view trailer here) Talking to Sikhsiyasat, the lawyer said "After watching the official trailer of the upcoming movie “Son of Sardar” on YouTube, I decided to issue legal notice to the makers of the movie"

Devgn was comments like "If Sikhs were not there, then who would have invented abuses" and also "in case Sardar would not have been there, then on whom would the jokes be made".

According to Singh, he came to know about these comments after watching the movie. The notice said that the film, in some parts, shows Sikhs in a bad light and hurts religious sentiments. And he wants Ajay to delete the dialogues from his official promo and also that may be included in the full movie!

The advocate has given Ajay a time of seven days to respond back to his complaint. A failure in this might take him to court for further legal procedures. According to TOI, the notice has been sent on Devgn's two addresses, at # 5/6 Sheetal Apartment, Opposite Chandan Cinema, Juhu, Mumbai-400049, and # 45-D Malgari Road, Mumbai-400058.

We will have to wait further for a retaliation from the actor or director, but personally we think that this shouldn't be made an issue at all - if it does then there should be a global ban over the Sardar jokes that is spreading, the dedicated sites that are sharing these jokes.

We will keep you posted on this!

SRK to promote Chennai Express during IPL

328931_($15.60 Payout) Save 61% on Home Movie to DVD 300x250

According to the latest reports, King Khan is set to promote his upcoming movie Chennai Express in the next season of IPL.

SRK is well known for his aggressive marketing style. No one can ever forget the rigorous promotions of Shahrukh’s Ra.One which started almost 4-5 months before the movie’s actual release. This time around the Superstar has planned to promote his film Chennai Express during the opening event of IPL season 6 by a performance.

After the success of Bol Bachchan, Rohit Shetty is all set to start his shooting with the Baadshah of Bollywood for his movie Chennai Express. Reports say that King Khan is planning to market the movie’s name on railway cups and trays since the story of the movie revolves around a train.

Chennai Express will be a hard core commercial film with a romantic angle starring Shahrukh Khan & his Om Shanti Om co-star Deepika Padukone. The story is about a man travelling from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and his experiences during the journey. There is a lot of romance keeping Shah Rukh Khan in mind but it will also be a typical Rohit Shetty film like the cars blowing and other lot of action.

Buzz was that the Golmaal filmmaker was previously supposed to do a remake of Gulzaar’s Angoor, but kept the project at the backburner since he realised getting dates from SRK is a big task! Apparently there were also rumors about a fall-out between Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan as the Singham star was upset of not being part of good friend, Rohit's next flick. But later both rubbished such gossips.

Will SRK and Rohit's jodi be a SuperHit?  Will the King Khan's marketing tactics work this time? Time will only tell...

Celebrations are still on for Abhishek Bachchan as he got in to the Rs 100 Crore club with his latest movie Bol Bachchan, directed by Rohit Shetty. The movie was a full on entertainer that still brings in audience. But it seems that Abhishek Bachchan is mature enough to not get carried away with the success.

Abhishek Bachahan was at the launch ceremony of his customized Audi A8 4.2 TDI Quattro, the car was a gift to himself as a part of celebrating his movie success. The fully automated, classy and beautifully customised four-wheeler now belong to Bachchan which he bought from his own hand earned money.

"I've just asked my team to find the address of where the Rs.100 crore club is because I would like to have a cup of coffee there sometime. There is no such club," said Abhishek.

"It's just that the 100 crore mark has replaced what the silver jubilee used to be before, it's like a milestone," added the 36-year-old, who says its "a huge honour to be part of a film with that kind of collections".

said AB sportingly when he asked how did he feel about being the member of the Rs.100 crore club!

Asked if the new car was a gift to himself for the success of Bol Bachchan, Abhishek said: "That makes a good headline, but unfortunately no. We decided to do this, it's completely customised. I have been a bit slow in picking everything and have taken my time, it's really a labour of love for me."

"So, although the timing is great - with the release of Bol Bachchan, I received the car, but it's something Audi and I started working on almost a year ago," he added.

Abhishek is planning to go to London now to watch and cheer the athletics which is to start out in a few more days!

Abhishek mobbed by girls - Gets out clean!

377692_Hayden_Success_Banner_300x250
Abhishek Bachchan who is busy with his schedule has been handling all those genres which hasn't been touched by him in a long time. The latest waiting on release is the comedy flick 'Bol Bachchan' which handles the comedy in a different track, being the remake of an yester year flick 'Golmaal' the movie still provides plenty of new experiences.

“The movie had far too many draws for me. Working with Rohit (Shetty) and AJ (Ajay Devgn) ; trying a different brand of comedy; the role itself, everything’s exciting,” says the actor, as he talks about what drew him to the film.

Abhishek also plays in a dual role in the movie, but this isn't a double role as per the actor and its two different situations of the character.  Abhishek says that he’s not moulded it on Amol Palekar of the original Golmaal at all.

“It’s the concept that’s inspired by the film, not characters, so it’s going to be a different take altogether,” he adds about his roles in the situational comedy.

The actor also insists that having worked with both Rohit and Ajay earlier too, it was great fun on the sets. “Working with AJ is always a pleasure. He’s a fantastic actor,” says Abhishek of his co-star. With his current schedule he has a short time to spend with his family and the actor do miss his daughter back home.

“Sure I do, like any other dad, but then work is important too and not interchangeable,” adds Abhishek. As for life changing after fatherhood, the actor says that it’s changed but not taken a 360 degree turn for sure. “I still come back home to my family and look forward to it, and now I have one more person waiting for me. Also yes, the responsibilities have shot up as I am now responsible for Aaradhya too,” he explains.

Recently on promotions, Abhishek was mobbed by a group of female fans who were asking for photographs and autographs. But as time went on the questions went too personal, but as per sources, Abhishek was game for it and handled the questions on his family and wife quite sensibly and evaded a controversy!

Way to go AB, we wish your comedy does like it has done in previous!

Bol Bachchan : AB does double role

Bol Bachchan's first looks are tough and amazingly colorful. Rohit Shetty is again the man behind the Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan starrer. Besides the two rocking stars, the film also features Amitabh Bachchan, Asin and Prachi Desai in lead roles. BB directed by Rohit Shetty is inspired by the 1979 comic flick, Golmaal and is slated to release on July 6, 2012.

The movie will get its color with Amitabh Bachchan, who appears in a cameo for the movie. The movie is said to be a comic flick and the two new looks of Abhishek Bachchan is much better than his 'idea mobile' ads ;-). And the majestic look of Ajay just adds character to the poster. The movie is presented by Fox Star Studios, and co-produced by Ajay Devgn Ffilms and Shree Ashtavinayak LFS Infra Ltd.,

The comic flick will be much awaited as Rohit Shetty has given himself a big space in the industry for the comic and action sequences that he does.

Insider snippet: In Jubilee Comedy Circus, Krushna Abhishek did a performance of Rohit Shetty never giving him a film role to do but having promised him in earlier seasons of the show, Rohit was so impressed by the performance, he decided to give Krushna a role in Bol Bachchan. Shetty also added Archana Puran Singh, from the same show

Will Ajay Devgn star in Singham sequel ?

It is said that actor Ajay Devgn might play the lead in singham sequel.

A source said that, ''Though it is still way too early to make any declarations, there are strong indications that Ajay would feature in the film's sequel.''

He added, ''This stems from thefact that Surya, who had featured in the original Tamil version SINGHAM, is now starting shoot of the sequel in a few weeks from now. While Hansika Motwani would be one of the leading ladies, there are talks of Anushka Shetty coming on board as well. Meanwhile there are strong feelers that Ajay would be an obvious choice for the Hindi remake since he took the subject to an altogether different level by bringing it on an all-India level.''

Singham is an Indian action film which was released on 22 July 2011, directed by Rohit Shetty starring Ajay Devgn, Kajal Aggarwal and Prakash Raj in lead roles. It is a remake of the 2010 Tamil film Singam featuring Suriya and Anushka Shetty. The film is produced by Reliance Entertainment, which co-produced the original Tamil movie. The movie was a super duper hit and became one of the highest grossing movies of 2011. The movie crossed the 100 crore mark and bagged 140 crore.

''Moreover there are other factors to be considered as well,'' said a source and added, "Reliance had backed Hindi version of SINGHAM while Rohit Shetty had directed it. However there were issues that had cropped between the two during making of the film. It would be a challenge to have all three players (Ajay, Rohit and Reliance) together again.''

Rohit Shetty did not say anything regarding the sequel of the movie.

The movie won't release before next year because the tamil version itself won't be releasing before the end of the year.

Rohit Shetty turns actor

Director Rohit Shetty, who was recently seen in the reality show "The Big Switch" playing the judge, is all set to make his debut as an actor.

He is not acting in his own movie but in his friend Tusshar Kapoor's sister's movie. He has shot a cameo in Ekta Kapoor’s Kya Super Cool Hai Hum (KSKHH) directed by Sachin Yardi.

Kya Super Kool Hai Hum is a sequel to the 2005 hit, Kya Kool Hai Hum starring Riteish Deshmukh and Tusshar Kapoor along with Neha Sharma and Sarah Jane-Dias.

Tusshar Kapoor, who plays the lead role in the movie, confirmed the news and said, “Yes, Rohit is doing a cameo in the film. I have shot with him and it was fun.”

Additionally, the actor was instrumental in getting Rohit on board for the project. The production team approached him for the cameo but as he was busy shooting Bol Bachchan, talks couldn’t progress. Tusshar then convinced Rohit to come on board. He said, “He had never turned down the cameo to begin with. But he agreed after I spoke to him.”

In Kya Super Kool Hai Hum, Rohit Shetty plays himself, a director who is shy and quiet on screen. The filmmakers wrapped up Rohit’s portion in few hours as Ekta Kapoor didn’t want to take much of his time. Tusshar Kapoor said, “We wanted him to be happy as that’s how he is when work is done quickly.”

A source close to the movie said, "Actor Tusshar Kapoor has acted in all the three Golmaal series directed by Rohit Shetty. They share a great rapport and the director couldn't say no to him."

Rohit Shetty Furious - Kareena, Asin, Deepika beware!

Rohit Shetty is surprised by the buzz caused by the female lead for his next movie 'Chennai Express' starring Shah Rukh Khan, the director has gone public on his stand and confirms that he hasn't approached any of the heroines that are currently in the news. He says that these rumors are baseless and should be rubbished on the first hand.

Earlier the news was that Kareena Kapoor was first one to break the news that she wont be doing the movie as she has issues with her dates, as she will be doing a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie opposite Ranveer Singh around the same period. Reacting to this Rohit says "Though I have often mentioned that Kareena is my favourite actress and that I would love to have her in the film, the fact is that we haven't approached her nor have we finalised any other actress. We will finalise that by April. In fact, I haven't met Kareena for nearly five months now."

The immediate news was that Asin Thottumkal will be replacing Kareena in the movie and she had once in an interview confirmed that she did sign up for the movie. But to this Rohit says "I am currently shooting for Bol Bachchan in Panchgani, and my sister sends me all the story clippings of the actresses we have presumably signed. Every day, I hear a new name. Even Shah Rukh is as confused as I am!"

Finally it was Deepika Padukone who was to be the lady love of Shah Rukh Khan in the movie and there were strong news that she will be doing the movie. This has finally become the breaking point for the director and he says "I got a call from someone a while ago asking if I had signed Deepika. I want to tell people to please stop this circus! I have a film to complete right now, so I want to focus on that. Till I return from Panchgani, I won't approach anyone. I don't know where these rumours are coming from. In all probability, none of these actresses will be signed for the role. But yes, this is a performance-oriented role and we need a beautiful face, so we will definitely sign an established name."

So ladies, since the top three are out, who else want to get a go at this?

Kareena OUT Deepika IN !!!

Who is going to be the lead lady of Chennai Express ? After an indecision on whether to cast either Katrina Kaif or Kareena Kapoor as the leading lady in the Chennai Express (which will be directed by Rohit Shetty, starring Shah Rukh Khan), the lead lady of SRK’s RA.One and Rohit Shetty’s favourite, Bebo had emerged victorious. In fact, Kareena had even said in an interview, “Rohit and I are finalising the script and other details. Rohit is like family, and I am seriously looking forward to working with him again.”

However, Bebo jumps off Chennai Express. Kareena Kapoor's enthusiasm regarding Chennai Express has been rather short-lived. Kareena who was once happy to be a part of the project, has excused herself from it. The reason behind leaving the project was said to be "the generic ‘DATE PROBLEM’"

A friend of Kareena, confirmed "Kareena has already informed Rohit Shetty that she wouldn't be able to work in Chennai Express. SRK is aware of it as well."

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone who has been in the news has been asked to board Chennai Express and become Shah Rukh Khan's co-passenger in the journey directed by Rohit Shetty.

A source close to the project said, “Deepika has given her nod of consent. The official signing should happen soon.”

Shahrukh waiting on Aamir?

Now that is the buzz in Bollywood, Aamir Khan will decide whether Shah Rukh Khan will sign a new film or not. Its not a irony that we are talking about but it seems that the production team associated with SRK is waiting on Aamir Khan's movie Talaash's release and the success it gains.

The matter spiced up when Gautham Vasudev Menon's movie 'Vettayaadu Vilayadu', a tamil movie has plans of being remade in Hindi and the director has expressed his desire to cast in Shah Rukh Khan as the lead role. The movie speaks about a cop who tries to pursue a serial killer, it is also said that the lead role was suggested by Kamal Hassan, who had played the hero for the original movie. But since playing cop is a new territory for SRK, he is still thinking about it and this is where Aamir Khan's role starts as he is going to release a movie with a similar story line, Talaash.

SRK is currently thinking of doing this slow and it might take a good five months of time before he makes up his mind. Currently he is working on two projects one from Yash Chopra and another from Rohit Shetty.

So we are eagerly waiting on you King!
