Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela is a 2013 Hindi romantic-drama film directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the eponymous leads. The film is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, set in violent times.

The film was initially titled Ram-Leela but was changed to Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela in response to an order by the Delhi High Court and released as scheduled. Upon release, the film received positive reviews from critics with praise of the direction and performances of lead actors and opened to strong box office collections worldwide

Ram-Leela Banned In UP; Still Grosses 93.58 Crores Globally

Even the name change has not helped "Goliyon Ki Rasleela, Ram-Leela". The latest ruling by Allahabad High Court has come in banning the movie from being screened in Uttar Pradesh. The controversial dialogues and few scenes has been cited as the reason for why the movie will be banned.

The Lucknow bench of the court comprising justices Devi Prasad Singh and Ashok Pal Singh passed the order to ban the film on a petition filed by Maryada Purshottam Bhagwan Ramleela Samiti, Bahraich.

The petitioner had prayed for cancellation of Censor Board certification given to the film on November 1 and sought that controversial and objectionable dialogues be removed from the film.

The film starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh was released on November 15.

The petition had contended that the film was hurting religious sentiments of Hindus and its title 'Ramleela' was giving a wrong message to society as Lord Ram's 'leela' (act) had great impact on Indian society.

Meanwhile, Eros International has announced a whopping Rs. 93.58 crores gross weekend worldwide for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's GOLIYON KI RASLEELA RAM-LEELA. The colourful Indian take on the classic Romeo and Juliet starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in its lead roles, released worldwide on 15th November in over 3,500 screens and grossed Rs. 68.58 crores in India (Rs. 52.75 crores net) and Rs. 25 crores ($4 million) in the overseas markets.

The film took both the Indian and overseas box office by storm by earning Rs. 16 crores nett at the domestic box office on its release day, followed by Rs. 17.25 crores on Saturday and Rs. 19.50 on Sunday. Overseas too, the film had cash registers ringing making it the highest grossing first weekend film in overseas where the weekend does not have extended public holidays.

Touted as a masterpiece by audiences and critics alike, RAM-LEELA is also currently on the 9th spot on the charts in the United Kingdom.

Finally Karan Gets Kareena

Kareena Kapoor who was planning to give full 150 days of her schedule to Sanjay Leela Bhansali seems to have found some trouble to do so, and this time it is from her best buddy in the industry Karan Johar. Karan who also plans to make a movie around the same period has asked for dates from Kareena. The movie Karan is producing will have Emraan Hashmi playing opposite Kareena. Earlier the rumors were strong that Kareena had a dislike for Emraan and she was trying to skip away with the Sanjay movie (Ram - Leela), but it seems that rumors have subsided as the latest buzz is that Kareena has given the green signal.

Karan had been trying hard on convincing Kareena for the role but the date conflicts with Sanjay was outlined as the main problem. As Kareena did not want to miss another opportunity to work with Sanjay like previous, she is excited to have finally got a role in his movie. It also seems that she has a soft spot for Karan and did not want to break him off too, which has finally come in as adjusting dates between the two directors. 

Kareena had earlier told the media "I have given 150 days of my schedule to Sanjay, as every heroine wishes, its an honor to work with Sanjay and I love the way he portrays his heroines". Ram - Leela will have Ranveer Singh playing opposite Kareena.

Meanwhile as the buzz for Kareena goes on at the Karan camp, it seems that Emraan Hashmi is the new heart-throb of the production house. They have eloped Emraan for the role and Karan seems to keep high hopes with the actor. The movie is said to be directed by Rensil D'Silva. 

The recent success rate of Emraan has made him star of many production houses and each are fighting in for his dates. The actor who had a slow start and was known for his 'Kissing' run has seriously improved through the years and is now regarded as good and capable enough to handle any roles.

Bhansali and Kareena meet in Ram-Leela?

The director has finally come forward confirming the movie. It had been a long wait for Kareena Kapoor to reach the director. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has now confirmed that he is making the movie with Kareena Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. It is an estuary of dreams coming in together, as it is said that Ranveer Singh had a long time crush on Kareena Kapoor and he is eager to work with him. The same goes with the heroine who was mesmerized by the art of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was just waiting for the right script to work with him. It seems that all is coming into one package.

“We have wanted to work together for a while and I am immensely excited. We met for the first time around the release of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). She was working on her debut, Refugee (2000), then. So, we’ve been constantly thinking and talking to each other. I’m happy that this has finally worked out  now,” says Bhansali.

Now is the movie titled Ram-Leela ? “It’s not titled Ram Leela. Let’s call it my new film with Kareena and Ranveer (Ranveer Singh). It’s a full-on masala movie and is in the Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam kind of space. I am going to have a blast.” corrects the director. Who had been busy producing his movies after his critically acclaimed success with 'Guzaarish'(2010). 

He also adds that he is impressed with Ranveer Singh and says “He is a great guy to work with. Plus, with 11 songs and great locales, I feel the chemistry between Ranveer and Kareena is going to rock,” adds Bhansali, who plans to take the film on the floors this July.

He also reacted on the long time rumor about Ranbir Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha to be casted in the same role "“Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna (people will keep saying these things, it’s their job). There’s always some other star cast that’s named every time I start a new film. I have always faced such issues with my films. All I have to say is, I have chosen these people, dekho na inko (please see them). What’s in your mind is a different matter.’ That puts end to the question !
