SA Tour Of India : Zaheer Makes In, Gambhir Will Still Have To Wait!

The Ranji games did wonders to the veteran bowler, Zaheer Khan. The latest announcement from BCCI confirm back the ace bowler of India back into the squad. The South African tour of India will see Zaheer after a period, as he was out due to injuries.

Unfortunately Gautam Gambhir, who shared the same space as Zaheer Khan has been left out and not being mentioned by the selectors. Gambhir who was downgraded to Group B set of contracted players by the BCCI recently did maintain a healthy average of 74 plus in the ongoing Ranji season, but still failed to secure a spot.

"His name was discussed, in fact, we discussed a lot of things. Even skipper M S Dhoni was consulted and all the players were selected unanimously," BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel said after a meeting of the selection committee here to Indian Express.

The 35-year-old Zaheer, who had been battling fitness issues and was even dropped from the BCCI's list of contracted players, was chosen in the 17-member Test squad after taking 13 wickets in three Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 19.84 this season.

The SA tour will include 3 ODI's and 2 Test sessions. This will be most watched session as it will lack the presence of Sachin Tendulkar. Also the surprise entry of the squad is 28 year old Ambatti Rayadu, the in form domestic player. He gets his chance for both ODI and Test match.

Unfortunately fans of Virendar Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh will still be in sorrow as the two are still not included in the squads. Pacer Ishant Sharma, who has been struggling for form, was retained in both the squads. The gangling speedster took a match-haul of nine wickets in Delhi's win over Haryana in a Ranji Trophy match yesterday. Umesh Yadav will also see the SA pitches, after being dropped earlier for the India Australia match due to poor form.

Yuvraj Singh continues in the ODI squad despite the weak form. The team also includes rookie Haryana pacer Mohit Sharma has also been included in the 16-member ODI squad. Wriddhiman Saha, a regular in the overseas Test tours, was retained as a reserve wicketkeeper, pipping Tamil Nadu's Dinesh Karthik and Gujarat's Parthiv Patel.

The three ODIs are scheduled to be held in Johannesburg, Durban and Centurion on December 5, 8, 11 respectively.

This will be followed by a two-day practice match against South African Invitational XI at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

The first Test match starts on December 18 at the New Wanderers while the 'Boxing Day' Test from December 26 will be played at the Kingsmead in Durban.

Test squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kolhi, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, Wriddhiman Saha, Zaheer Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Pragyan Ojha

ODI Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kolhi, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Amit Mishra.

The Fairy Tale Send Off By Dhoni And Team For Sachin Tendulkar

In an exclusive chat, the Master Blaster who retired on Saturday after playing his 200th Test, said when he ran in to join team huddle after the ninth West Indian wicket (Shane Shillingford) fell, Tendulkar was politely asked to stay away from team celebration.

"It was a fairy-tale farewell. The kind of send-off my team gave me, I think that was also very emotional. Before that I knew when West Indies lost nine wickets, the whole team gathered in the middle and MS Dhoni said 'Paaji, you please leave us alone, you go because we're planning something for you. We don't want you to be here' And, I'm like wondering what are they planning, they're up to something," Sachin told NDTV on Sunday.

After the hugs and embraces, an emotional Tendulkar was given a never-seen-before "running" guard of honour by Dhoni and Company as the 'God' of cricket walked all the way back to the pavilion acknowledging the cheer from an almost packed Wankhede crowd. How team gave a mobile guard of honour, cheering the person genius as he walked to the boundary.

Dhoni and Virat Kohli were the first to lift the Little Master on their shoulders and take him for a lap of honour. Tendulkar admits he will miss all those cherished moments of being with the team.

"I will miss being with the team because when you're travelling with the team the energy is something. Every time you are thinking about the opposition, and you want to be a step ahead of the opposition. So even if you are having dinner, casually, or even cracking jokes with your friends, but somewhere it will come that this is how you need to bowl to a particular batsman or rather when that bowler bowls we need to do this and this is how you need to face the ball. So somewhere you sub conscious mind is constantly working and your mind is constantly occupied thinking about the game. So I will miss that," he said.

Tendulkar also said that he is planning to write an autobiography, where every page will depict the 24 years of his illustrious career. The book is expected to capture the dream journey of a middle class boy who climbed the summit of excellence to end up becoming the only player in the world to record 100 hundreds in international cricket.

Stingy 5000 Tickets For Public; 200th Test Of Sachin Tendulkar - Sold Out

So this is the dilemma that the crores of Sachin fans are facing. For his final test, where the god plays his final cricket, there are only stingy 5000 tickets to be availed for public, the rest of thousands have gone complimentary! This is the unfairest decision by the Mumbai board.

Also we did see the site break with the rush of 19 million people on to the site, the traffic was too much to handle. And what is surprising in this is that, with this traffic in the only source for the public to purchase tickets was closed!

The tickets were available through www.Kyazoonga.com but the site had almost immediately crashed with the surge of millions and millions of Sachin fans. The site is still slow as we speak right now, the tickets are priced at Rs500, Rs1,000 and Rs2,500.
The website is still getting high count of hits but the reports are coming in that the tickets are already sold out in midst of the slow response. The site kyazoonga.com is the official partner for the India-West Indies test cricket matches. With Sachin's 200th test, the website company have already have made an impression over the crowd.

MCA had earlier issued a statement that the online ticket sales for Tendulkar's 200th Test in Mumbai would start from Monday. Around 3,000 tickets will be available for sale, excluding the 1,500 special tickets priced at Rs 10,000. The price category for the online sale is -- Rs 500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,500. The Wankhede has the capacity to seat 32,000 people.
But we strongly convey our dislike to MCA for providing so limited count of tickets when it was well aware that Sachin fans will rush in like anything.

The final test is scheduled to start on November 14th.

Mumbai Indians Crowned With CLT20 2013 Cup

The Mumbai Indians had the match in their hand as soon as the first innings had completed. Thanks to the efforts from Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell, the team had a faster go at the 203 target for the Rajasthan Royals. The team looked strong when it came to batting and it was the slow but steady partner ship between Dwayne Smith and Sachin Tendulkar that started off the proceedings. In response to the score, only the second order of Rajasthan Royals showed resistance.

The proceedings on Mumbai Indians started with a slower Dwayne Smith 44(39 balls, 5 4's, 1 six) and a quick 15(13 balls, 3 4's) by Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin was the first to depart, and was clean bowled out by S. Watson. Followed by Ambatti Rayadu 29(24 balls, 4 4's). He was joined by Rohit Sharma, when D. Smith was bowled out Pravin Tambe. Rohit made 33 in 14 balls which included 3 4's and 2 6's. The Mumbai innings was also boosted by a short lived 10 by Pollard (1 six 1 four) and Glenn Maxwell's 39 from 14 balls which included 4 fours and 2 sixes.

In counter attack the first wicket of Rajasthan Royals went in vain as Kushal Parera made out for a run which wasn't there. The second wicket partnership of RR was the one that made Mumbai sweat a bit as young Sanju Samson and Ajinkya Rahane managed to get a partnership worth 109 runs in 67 balls. Sanju was the highlight as he was aggressive on Harbhajan Singh and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Sanju made 60 of 33 balls which included 4 fours and 4 sixes. He was dropped earlier in the innings for which Harbhajan and Smith went on to get confused to whether who will pick the catch.

Anjinkya Rahane scored a 65 from 47 balls which included 2 sixes and 5 fours. The innings of Rahane was classic but he was missing a strong partner in the opposite end to help him carry out further. The short lived 8 of Shane Watson with a six included was positive but was soon sent out by Harbhajan. Harbhajan was also the lead of the wicket takers for Mumbai getting in 4/32 Runs.

Rahul Dravid was also on the unfortunate side of fate as he was sent out first ball bowled by Coulter-Nile.

Finally letting down the side with a score of 169/10 in 18.5 overs, helping MI to take away the Champions League Twenty20.

It was a historic match as the icons of Indian Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid had met for their final encounter, since Tendulkar has already declared to retire from Twenty20 matches. Also it watched the young talent Sanju Samson take on bowlers in style.

Arjun Tendulkar Makes His Debut In Club Cricket - Kanga League

Photographers at a Kanga League ‘G’ Division game? Even the cricketing gods would laugh out loud. So what drew them to the Muslim United Cricket Club at Azad Maidan on a pleasant Sunday morning?

Well, a 13-year-old did.

Arjun Tendulkar, whose angelic eyes are reminiscent of his great father, made his maiden appearance in the inter-club tournament, the refurbished version of which also made its ‘debut’ on Sunday. Representing the Young Parsee Cricket Club,

the left-handed batsman scored one run off 11 deliveries before being stumped off the bowling of Sanjay Solanki, an off-spinner.

However, Arjun’s early departure didn’t affect his team’s fortunes. Young Parsee, who posted 202/9 declared, restricted United Cricket Club to 156/6. The teams pocketed a point each.

Back to the atmosphere and the Young Parsee dugout resembled that of the Kolkata Knight Riders! Remember how Shah Rukh Khan used to turn heads during every other Indian Premier League match?

“Arjun! Look here, Arjun!” the photographers cried. The buzz around the ground was that Sachin Tendulkar had already requested the coaches and officials associated with the tournament to keep his son away from the media glare.

There were murmurs that the maestro did not want the other kids to “suffer” due to Arjun’s presence.

But every kid isn’t as fortunate as Arjun.

This newspaper can confirm that Arjun, who also bowls left-arm medium pace, trained with none other than Zaheer Khan at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Bandra-Kurla Complex facility in the lead-up to the tournament. He also had Ajit Agarkar and Yuvraj Singh for company.

Zaheer’s tips seemed to have helped Arjun. He returned figures of 7-2-35-1. Onlookers said Arjun got the ball to move away from left-hander Omkar Mane.
He also managed to induce an edge which was pouched by the fielder at second slip.

Rajesh Sanil, Arjun’s coach, was all praise for his ward. “Arjun is playing in an open age group. He is among the men now. This will make him more confident. He is a good package and is getting better by the day.”

The youngster, perhaps, knows he attracts reporters and photographers because his surname is Tendulkar. Truth is he has a long way to go.

Sachin Will Play 200th Test At Home

Sachin Tendulkar is all set to play his 200th Test match on home soil with the BCCI trying to squeeze in a series against the West Indies ahead of the year-end tour of South Africa.

The decision to invite West Indies for two Tests and five one-dayers was taken at the working committee meeting here today.

"We have sent a proposal to the West Indies Cricket Board in this regard. We are hopeful of working out the modalities for the series," a top BCCI official said.

The series against West Indies will provide Tendulkar a chance to complete the historic milestone of playing 200 Tests in front of home fans.

Mumbai and Kolkata are the likely venues for the much-anticipated matches and the final decision will be taken by the BCCI's tours and fixtures committee.

This has also raised speculation that Tendulkar may call it quits from the game after this series.

The champion batsman has so far played 198 Tests, scoring 15,837 runs at an average of 53.86. The top run-getter by quite a mile, Tendulkar has scored 51 hundreds in the five-day format.

Tendulkar, who has retired from ODIs and Twenty20s, played 463 50-over games scoring 18.426 runs at an average of 44.83. He struck 49 hundreds in the process.

The BCCI official said the working committee did not have any discussion on the South Africa series, which India need to finalise after rejecting the itinerary proposed by Cricket South Africa.

The official said the BCCI Annual General Meeting to be held in Chennai on September 29 will be chaired by N Srinivasan, who stepped aside as Board President in the wake of the IPL spot-fixing scandal.

Interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya will look after the day-to-day functioning of the Board till the AGM.

Vidya and SRK come together for a cause

Vidya and Shahrukh who havn't signed any film together will soon come together for a common cause.

Vidya Balan and Shah Rukh Khan will soon be part of a media blitzkrieg to popularise Centre's total sanitation campaign which aims at eradicating the practice of open defecation.

Jairam Ramesh, minister of Union Rural Development, who also holds the portfolio of Drinking Water and Sanitation, has already approached the two actors for seeking their participation in the campaign.
He said that, "I have contacted both Shah Rukh and Vidya Balan. Their initial response have been positive."

Indian Cricketing star Sachin Tendulkar is already involved with the social cause and even filmmaker Shyam Benegal is planning to make a movie on the subject of sanitary issues.

Jaisram Ramesh said the idea is to utilise their service in a massive communication programme to popularise total sanitation campaign. He said that, "We have to bring visibility to the sanitation programme."

Census 2011 data on houses, household amenities and assets has revealed that 49.8 per cent of Indian households defecate in open. Only 46.9 per cent of India's 24.66 crore households have a latrine facility and 3.2 per cent people use public toilets. The minister has apparently set a target of ten years to eradicate the issue of sanitation.

Katy meets the blaster

Katy Perry, the famous American Pop star is out on her second outing to India. She has been excited and was here to perform at the inauguration ceremony of the Indian Premiere League. She did entertain a croud of thousands and had literally set the stage in glitters. Her dress was much appreciated and the Indian ornaments on her just added to the beauty.

Katy Perry, also was excited to meet the little Master - Sachin Tendulkar. Meeting the god of cricket was a dream come true for the pop star and she even posted the picture on her blog ""Had a great time at the IPL ceremony in India. Met Sachin Tendulkar, one of the BEST cricket players in the world!" says her.

Katy was also all praises for Priyanka Chopra, who had performed at the same event and is excited about her English album that she is about to launch as a singer. Priyanka is planning to launch the album at LA, Katy says "lovely to meet you! Can't wait to host you in Los Angeles...also can't wait to raid your closet." With a strong singer like Katy on her side, PC will have a good go at the singing section as well. Its not the first time the DON girl has been praised for her dresses, earlier Victoria Beckham had commented on her and she was listed as the most influential women. Even midst of controversies, PC is finding her place in the industry.

BIG B wants a share of Katy!

Thats the news, Amitabh Bachchan who did perform at the IPL events was also excited about getting to know about the singer and he even blogged that he wanted the autograph of the pop singer. "The grand daughter has a fancy for the singer Katy Perry. I hope I have the name correct. She had performed along with several others at the opening of the IPL last night, and now Navya wants her autograph for she loves her. So efforts are on to make that happen!!," Bachchan posted on his blog.

The 27 year old singer is already a role model for many but Amitabh Bachchan seems to find his age hindering in the information about her, and he blames the generation gap for it "I would probably get killed for this, but I had not heard of her till last night. The age difference is playing havoc!," he said. The 69-year old actor had recently done few surgeries and is recovering.

"In hospital a friend gave me an entire collection of songs, some unprinted too, of the Beatles. Bet today's grandchildren would 'snuff' at that, but for us it was like possessing a Bible ?" sacred and pure and so full of all the worth in the world." adds the actor who is excited about western music.

Aamir Khan searching for a new home!

Its tough to get a perfect house for the perfectionist but the search is on, if the sources are to be believed Aamir Khan is now searching for a house or bungalow at Bandra area and preferably near Sachin's new abode. The search seems to be in full swing for an old bungalow or a plot near the area.

The source explained, "Aamir wants a place in Bandra, but he is willing to settle for a bungalow in Khar too. Although, he has got his heart set on Bandra, as he wants to be neighbours with Sachin Tendulkar. He has gone to view a couple of plots near Sachin's new house on Perry Cross Road."

"It will be a good investment. He is open to buying an old bungalow and renovating it completely," added the source.

Apparently, the actor, who already owns a flat in Marina Apartments in Union Park, has been on this quest since 2008. However, back then Aamir was reportedly keen on purchasing a residential society. Now the search is not because Aamir Khan has a smaller apartment, but he just wishes to have a bigger house with better place for his office.

Source also mentioned that Aamir Khan production team had also approached near the 22 storey apartment complex in Santa Cruz, but the plan got dropped. Now the actor is searching for a house at Bandra. "He is not ruling out shifting to a posh building. At this point, he doesn't mind either a building or a bungalow," said the actor's friend.
