OMG review - The Akki-Paresh plays the saviour

It seems that the blow that Akshay had with 'Joker' is very soon healed as his next movie 'OMG - Oh My God' does the job what was missing in Joker. The super hit pair of Akshay and Paresh Rawal is given credit for the movie, which might have been otherwise a weaker plot to discuss. The movie talks about the importance of loving the god you believe instead of fearing the god and doing the rituals in the same fear.

Oh My God is the story of a shopkeeper Kanjibhai (Paresh Rawal), who sells antique idols of God at triple times its original price. A tornado destroys his antique store and then he decides to take God to court. When he claims for an insurance reimbursment the company denies this mentioning the mishap as an act of god. Which makes Kanjibhai file a case against all famous saints and gurus - and thereby god. 

As Kanjibhai directs all his ire at God and His "collection agents" – in the courtroom, he describes cash-rich temples as business establishments and their portly priests as salesmen – Lord Krishna decides to step in and do something about the mess that has enveloped his life.

The movie does have a lot of let downs and a series of overacting scenes by co-actors. 

Govind Namdeo as a saffron-clad godman is the top among the list followed by Poonam Jhawer, whose intention was much less but turned out to be a worst of performances. Again this is the reason why Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar is marked as the rescuers. Most of the one liners between them gets in the claps running, but this doesn't mean that every one of this was accepted with a smile!

The movie had a court case filed by the Women Congress in Gujarat for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. But this case was dismissed without further proceedings and the makers also added in a disclaimer to soften its approach towards the comical situations that were being made: OMG disavows any intention of hurting the sentiments of "any individual, community, sect or religion"

Mithun Chakraborty would have also shone better if there wasn't some of the sequences in the movie. The production of Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar wouldn't be a miss as Joker did. 

All said and done, the movie is a mix of entertainment and some of the real life drama. Inspired from the famous Gujrati play 'Kanji Virrudh Kanji' the makers have done justice to what was to be portrayed, but if you question if this was the correct way, then we would say it would have been lot better, and should have taken the movie to a better level.

Oh My God - Akshay on Bike!

Akshay Kumar is now featuring in as modern day Lord Krishna for the movie Oh My God (click here for trailer). The first looks of the movie is now out and it shows Akshay Kumar riding on a bike through clouds. As to his previous movie, the current poster also shows him in water color effects! Is it his lucky charm?

The good news doesn't stop there, apart from playing god, it is also the come back of the comedy duo Paresh Rawal and Akshay. The two who have given massive comedy hits were taking a break but it seems they are coming back in big time now! 

The film which is a based on Umesh Shukla's Gujarati play " Kanji Viruddh Kanji" has Paresh Rawal in the lead role playing the character of Kanahaiya. Akshay Kumar plays the character of modern day Lord Krishna. What unites these two characters in the film is the central plot. It's a tale of unconventional happenings in normal day to day lives and when your recipe has a mix of Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, it's sure as hell going to tickle your funny bone.

With Lord Krishna himself coming down for our beloved Kanji on planet earth, the film which is set to release on September 28 is going to have everyone rushing to the theatres saying, " Oh My God."

Vicky Donor to be the Landmark - Shoojit

Shoojit, the director for 'Vicky Donor' is all set and ready for this outing into box office. He is excited about the theme he has took up and is on high confidence that the movie will be unique comedy entertainer and also will be a landmark to the changing industry and story trends "It would be a landmark film for sure. This kind of subject is absolutely new for the Indian audience and we have made the film just the way it should have been," says Shoojit. He had started off with the movie 'Yahaan' which did not make much response in the boxoffice but still had ripples around. 

Shoojit also appreciates John for his confidence in agreeing to the theme and to make his debut in production a memorial one. They find it common on many grounds including the star cast. The promos are already getting good response over and the choice of a fresh face, Ayushmann Khurrana has been widely accepted. "Since the very beginning John and I were sure that we would get a fresh face for the film. We wanted to bring in a fresh actor who would bring on a smile with his very appearance and I didn`t want any excess baggage that would have to be removed off an established star.

"Moreover both John and I like Ayushmann as a person. He was the best choice for the film and audience reaction to him just on the basis of promos is a testimony of that," adds the director. VJ turned actor, Ayushmann has been shown with the same energy as he is known for his tv performances and he plays the role of young Punjabi cricketer in the movie. 

Another prominent role and one of the most appreciated one based on trailers is the role done by Annu Kapoor, that of Dr Chadha. "There are a very few actors who can pull off a character like `Chadha` from Daryaganj, Delhi. A character like this needs to be played quite carefully and Annu Kapoor just fits the bill," Shoojit said. The director said that he had considered actors like Om Puri and Paresh Rawal for Dr Chadha`s role. "We did think of these actors and for that matter Pankaj Kapoor as well. They are all of course fine actors but Annu suits the role best. It is a clear reinvention of sorts for him and I can proudly say that we are reintroducing him with this film."

Due to the controversial nature of the subject, there always arises the question if the movie is for adults alone, Shoojit clarifies this as well "I will never make a film that is crass or slapstick; that`s not my style. The humour quotient in the film too is as real as it gets with nothing forced. There was a thin line we created while writing the film and we did not cross it. Whether it is audio or visual content, nothing would make audience from any age group squirm in their seats. The film is a very straight portrait of real life characters and there won`t be anything repulsive on display here,"

The movie hits screens today and will be a treat to watch as per reports.

Akshay's Dilemma : Salman or Shah Rukh?

No actor would have equaled the confusion that the action star Akshay Kumar is currently facing. He is confused between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan to choose from for his upcoming project. The new movie will be directed by Ashvini Yardi. A source close to the production house says "The role is suitable for both the actors and the director of the movie is ready to change the characterization to suit each actor, whoever is chosen for the role".

The confusion in the production house has increased with Akshay moving out for his shooting schedule and will be much occupied there. “Till Akshay was playing the role, they were sure what they wanted. But now since that has changed the director is more than willing to change the script to suit the star. Both Salman and SRK will bring in a very different kind of personality towards the role and it only makes sense to write the dialogues accordingly,” added the source.

Ashvini who is friends with both Shah Rukh and Salman hopes to find the suitable actor depending on dates available. The movie is an adaptation of Paresh Rawal's play "Krishna V/S Kanahiya', the story has been altered to suit audience but the base is still the play.

Another rumor in spread is that this might cause the clash to spread further, as the rivalry between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan continues through years now!
