The famous Preeti Jain case will be proceeded Mumbai High Court after the series of rejectionson plea's Madhur Bhandarkar made to the court on moving the case to a more convenient location. His final plea was rejected by the court to move the hearing to Mumbai Metropolitan court so that there is minimal hindrance to his work.
The Preeti Jain rape case was filed against the filmmaker in July 2004, when Miss Jain lodged the complaint that Madhur had raped her several times during the time period of 1999 to 2004, promising her to marry her and to cast her as the lead actress in his movies.
"Justice R.C. Chavan today (Thursday) refused to stay the trial against Bhandarkar, stating that he will now have to face criminal trial," Jain`s lawyer S. Kunjuraman told IANS. "Bhandarkar has tried his level best to buy time by approaching various courts and filing several pleas. But now he has exhausted all his tricks and will have to face trial," he added.
A Mumbai metropolitan court had ordered the proceedings as they found substance in the complaint and had asked to continue the proceedings. Although the filmmaker did get an anticipatory bail on the case from the court considering the proceedings. In September 2005, Jain was arrested and charged with conspiracy to murder. Police alleged that she paid gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli's one time aide Naresh Pardesi Rs. 75,000 to have Bhandarkar killed. She was later released on bail.
Madhur, is currently in midst of shooting third schedule for his movie 'Heroine' and if everything fares well, he should be a happy man to continue with the dream project.
