Priyanka Chopra: Costliest B-town actress

It is said that actress Priyanka Chopra has been signed for Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of Zanjeer for a whopping sum of Rupees 9 crore. So now after Kareena Kapoor now Priyanka Chopra is the highest paid actress in B-town.

A source said that, "The top four B-town actresses - Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone  get paid something between 2.5 to 4 crore depending on the producer, the script and the project. Of course, exceptions are made when there is desperation to bring an actress on board."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan got a 5.5 crore for Robot and Kareena Kapoor got an amount close to 7 crore for Heroine, because Ash left the producers at the crossroads. And now Priyanka seems to have taken the lead.

Actress Vidya Balan gets paid much less than them even after her stunning performances in Ishqiya, Paa, No One Killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture and Kahaani. Producer Ratan Jain said, "Even though actresses are becoming more and more important to the scheme of things in B'wood, Vidya Balan being the prime example, they remain comparatively underpaid."

Remake of the 1973 blockbuster will feature actress Priyanka Chopra playing the street smart female. The upcoming remake of the 1973 blockbuster Zanjeer will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia co-produced by Prakash Mehra's son Amit Mehra and Reliance Entertainment. Telugu actor Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja will reprise the role of Amitabh Bachchan in the film. Priyanka will play the role of an independent, bold and spirited girl who runs a NRI cafe.

Zanjeer which was released in 1973 is a Hindi film directed and produced by Prakash Mehra, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit and Bindu. The movie changed the trend from romantic films to action films and pioneered Amitabh's new image of a brooding but explosive person who fights back when cornered. He was now known as "The Angry Young Man." The film was a super hit. It collected over Rs. 5 crores (Rs. 50 million) at the box office.
