Billa 2 : Less James Bond, more Jason Bourne

The movie community is quite particular about dates, especially the bigger banners avoid the 13th and when it is Friday the 13th then its always a big 'no'. But for some reason, the makers of Billa 2 doesn't even notice the dates, and that is the hype that the movie has created. Billa 2 is a sequel to Billa, a tamil movie. The music and teasers of Billa 2 were already hitting on youtube as soon as they were released (trailers here). 

With Ajith's Billa II, directed by Chakri Toleti, all set to hit screens today, the makers are more than excited. The film with Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Vidtyut Jamwal and Sudanshu Pandey playing key roles, has created a big buzz with fans of Thala.

The movie is said to be hitting 1500 screens, which is a record count for any movie till date. Producer Suresh Balaje says, "The city is on an Ajith high, and the entire credit for this kind of frenzy surrounding the film goes to him. Billa is a franchise and has a high brand value. We're sure this film will live up to the expectations."

Ask him why the 13th was chosen? "It dawned very late on us. We were making sure that the film release at the right time and reach the audience that we didn't pay attention to this fear factor. But seriously, the film is as good as its content and stars, and such superstitions don't bother us," he laughs.

Talking of the film's USP, producer Sunir Kheterpal, of In Entertainment, says, "It is a 127-minute unapologetic, quick and fast film, which does not waste any time with un-necessary songs in foreign locations and comedy tracks. Less James Bond, more Jason Bourne; that's Billa II. It has turned out to be much better than what we had envisioned and I am sure several benchmarks will get established in Kollywood with this."

Ask Sunir how true are the reports that the film has been sold for a whopping amount, and he says, "The film has been pre-sold at a record price for any Ajith film till date. However, as producers, we've ensured that it has been sold to the right distributors and not just the highest bidder, at price points where all of them stand to gain. The distributors of a film are its lifeline. We believe our film is successful when everyone involved benefits from it."

So dont forget to watch and dance to the tunes of Billa 2.
