Short Bio

Vidya Balan was born to P. R. Balan, currently the Vice President of ETC India, and Saraswathy Balan, a homemaker, at Ottapalam in Palakkad District. She has a sister Priya Balan who works in Advertising media.

Initially she had tried her role in Malayalam movie Chakram, but it was in the sitcom - Hum Paanch and a series of advertisements that did give a boost to her career. And she finally grabbed the role in Parineeta(2005).

She has in time and time broke the traditional concepts of heroine and with her latest release 'Kahaani' she arose as a competent to the otherwise Khan dominated industry. She has had her tough times but since her recent series of successes, she is regarded on a different platform than other actresses.

The actress has also received criticism on her dressing style and growing weight, to which she happily waves off. Her marriage was held in a private function held at Chembur, and she has married her long time love, UTV CEO Siddharth Roy Kapoor.
