The lead role of one of Chetan Bhagat's Best seller 2 states will be played by non other than Mr. Perfectionist's nephew Imran Khan.

According to sources, Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar will start working on the film soon. The movie will go on floors next year and Imran Khan will play a Punjabi munda in the film. The female lead Anusha aka Ananya for the film is yet to be decided.

There were alot of rumours ever since Sajid Nadiadwala bought the rights of the book immediately after its release in the year 2009, on who would play the lead roles in the movie.

A source said that, "Sajid had bought the rights of the film a couple of years back. It was to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, with Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead. However, talks fizzled out. After that, Karan stepped in as the co-producer and Ranbir Kapoor agreed to topline it. But Kapoor`s involvement didn`t work out and the project was put on the backburner."

The source added, “Imran is the new star on the block and with a slew of hits to his credit, he is as bankable as any other top star. Karan was keen to have Imran on board. The actor takes his time to commit to any film. But he loved the script of 2 States and gave his nod to the film, which is expected to start early next year.”

2 States: The Story of My Marriage is a 2009 novel written by Chetan Bhagat.
