Alia Bhatt is running a dream debut with Karan Johar's 'Student Of The Year' - the movie is based on three youngsters and Karan had released the first looks of the movie recently via twitter. The luck comes in not only for Alia, but also includes David Dhawan's son Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra.

Alia, daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan was keen to join the Bollywood bandwagon and as per reports she used to be good at mimicking the acts of her favorite actresses, but if you are wondering what made her move away from main stream? It was her weight and yeah she was in the league of Sonakshi - a fatso.

Alia had attended the auditions for 'Student Of The Year' where Karan Johar had spotter her, citing the special spark that was missing in an odd count of 100 girls at the audition. Karan Johar says there was something exuberant, confident and star-ly about Alia that made her stand out of the crowd. His only hiccup was her weight. So Karan Johar told her that she could get the role on one condition: she has to lose weight. Alia didn’t think twice before saying that she will.

Thereafter followed the rigorous workouts and diet regimens for Alia Bhatt. It took her three months to lose 16 kilos. (gulp!)

The first promo of Student Of The Year will be releasing tomorrow, 2nd of august, (as usual, tune into videos.indiaviolet.com for the updates). The first poster of the movie has given in the impression of an young and youthful starcast and the audience have started expecting a new and fresh story (else a copy of hollywood movie!).

Alia in her childhood days had worked in ‘Sangharsh’, directed by Tanuja Chandra, which starred Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta, in 1999.

‘Student of the Year’ also feature other debutants, like Varun Dhawan (Son of Director David Dhawan), Kayoze Irani (son of actor Boman Irani), and newcomer Siddharth Malhotra. It also features Kayoze’s father Boman Irani. Actor Rishi Kapoor plays the role of a gay, as Dean Yoginder Vasisht.

Varun who was keen on movies had left his education in Manchester to join movies, and he along with Siddharth had assisted Karan Johar while he was directing My Name Is Khan. Remembering this Karan Johar shared "My instinct and impulse is the main reason why I make films,'' says the 40-year-old filmmaker. "The boys knew each other well because of their work experience in MNIK. And their camaraderie helped fuel their screen interaction in Student of the Year. The story of SOTY is about two friends. And these two share a certain bond because they had done their internship together.''

The movie will release by October 11th and Karan is co-producing this movie with Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chilies Entertainment. Though, SRK does not appear in a major role in the movie, it is rumored that Shahrukh and Kajol will make a guest appearance in the movie. The movie went on floors on August 16th, 2011 by socialite Paremeshar Goodrej. Karan Johar turned director for this movie after a long time. He last directed the movie ‘My name is Khan’ in 2008.
