New Delhi/ Mumbai/ Chennai: The walls are closing in on Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) chief N Srinivasan after two top board officials - Treasurer Ajay Shirke and Secretary Sanjay Jagdale - quit on Friday evening. Other BCCI office-bearers also likely to resign forcing Srinivasan to call a board meeting early next week, say sources.

Shirke who was appointed by Srinivasan in the panel to investigate the complaints about players having link with the bookies. Both Shirke and Jagdale was also named as the most close associates of Srinivasan in BCCI, but with the two gone, it seems that Srinivasan will have a tough time. The board which has 18 members against Mr. Srinivasan holding the president post and 8 members with him. With the upcoming board meeting on June 8, that should seal the fate.

Again the resignation decision still rests in hands of Mr. Srinivasan as he can choose to hold on to the post, in which case, the board can appoint a intermediary committee which will monitor the boards operations until the investigations are complete. Following the resignation, Mr. Shirke told the media,

"This is just my decision. This has nothing to do with anything else. I was feeling very hurt, very upset [with the off-field issues]. I want to see cricket as a game," he said. "I had already requested the president to not keep me on the panel," said Jagdale and added that quitting the president's post is entirely Srinivasan's decision. "Frankly, I leave it to him. He has been in the game longer than me. I don't think there is any personal allegation against him."

"It's just the day I have resigned. It [working with a different president] will depend on the freedom or mindset of that president," Shirke said.
It was a crippling blow for the BCCI president who walked out of Chennai airport, into a media scrum and his hold over the cricket board slipping away rapidly. Not surprisingly, Srinivasan stayed quiet even as reports started to emerge that resignations of other key officials were inevitable.
