Kahaani witnesses major setback !!!

In : |

Sujoy Ghosh's movie Kahaani which was all set to release on 9 th March, 2012 has witnessed a major setback. The Kolkata Metro Western Railway Authority have demanded deletion of an important scene within the next two days. The scene has Vidya standing at the Kalighat platform, waiting to board a train but suddenly a man pushes her on the tracks before a speeding train.

Metro authorities had allowed the film unit to shoot for four days last year at the busy Tollygunje and Kalighat metro stations. Senior officials of the Kolkata Metro Railway happened to watch the promos of Kahaani on YouTube last month and have asked producers of the film to remove the particular clip from their trailers as well as from the film. According to sources filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh didn’t mention this scene when they submitted the script to the Kolkata Railway Authority

Protyush Kumar Ghosh said, "I found the clip objectionable and wrote a letter to the film's director citing our objection to it. We requested him to delete the particular portion and withdraw the promos as it showed the Metro in bad light."

The filmmaker said, "The scene is actually a dream sequence and the scene had been shot using computer-generated imagery technique with the help of some special celluloid effects and no such scene was shot on the Kolkata metro platform."

General Manager P B Murti said, "We are opposed to the scene as we are very concerned about the rate of suicides on the Metro tracks. We know how people get ideas for committing suicide and for other criminal activities." Protyush added, "As it is, there are many cases of suicides on metro tracks. Since the metro railway's inception in 1988, there have been a total of 234 cases registered with the authorities of which, as many as 120 people have died while the remaining 114 passengers have somehow managed to survive."

To which Sujoy Ghosh said: "The scene in the film is not meant to remind people of suicides. Anyways, if anybody has to commit suicide, he will not do it because of my film. As a filmmaker I need to show all sides of a city, including the darker aspects."

The General Manager of Kolkata Metro Railway will see the scene on 7th March and take a final call on the scene.

The movie is based on the real life experiences of novelist Advaita Kala (author of Almost Single), who has penned the script for the film. Kahaani is all about a seven-month pregnant woman who comes alone to Kolkata from London in search of her husband, just the way Advaita had landed in Kolkata from the US to work at the Oberoi Grand hotel. She was retracing the footsteps of her then boyfriend who had worked at the same hotel a year ago.
