Vidya and SRK come together for a cause

Vidya and Shahrukh who havn't signed any film together will soon come together for a common cause.

Vidya Balan and Shah Rukh Khan will soon be part of a media blitzkrieg to popularise Centre's total sanitation campaign which aims at eradicating the practice of open defecation.

Jairam Ramesh, minister of Union Rural Development, who also holds the portfolio of Drinking Water and Sanitation, has already approached the two actors for seeking their participation in the campaign.

He said that, "I have contacted both Shah Rukh and Vidya Balan. Their initial response have been positive."

Indian Cricketing star Sachin Tendulkar is already involved with the social cause and even filmmaker Shyam Benegal is planning to make a movie on the subject of sanitary issues. 

Jaisram Ramesh said the idea is to utilise their service in a massive communication programme to popularise total sanitation campaign. He said that, "We have to bring visibility to the sanitation programme."

Census 2011 data on houses, household amenities and assets has revealed that 49.8 per cent of Indian households defecate in open. Only 46.9 per cent of India's 24.66 crore households have a latrine facility and 3.2 per cent people use public toilets. The minister has apparently set a target of ten years to eradicate the issue of sanitation.
