Priyanka Chopra to play Jaya Bachchan's role in new Zanjeer

After starring in the remake of Amitabh Bachchan's blockbuster movies Don and Agneepath, Priyanka Chopra is has now been chosen as the female lead in a yet another Amitabh Bachchan remake "Zanjeer". 

The actress played Roma in Shahrukh Khan’s Don, Hrithik Roshan’s love in Agneepath and this time Priyanka has bagged Jaya Bachchan's role in the Zanjeer remake.

Remake of the 1973 blockbuster will feature actress Priyanka Chopra playing the street smart female. The upcoming remake of the 1973 blockbuster Zanjeer will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia co-produced by Prakash Mehra's son Amit Mehra and Reliance Entertainment. Telugu actor Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja will reprise the role of Amitabh Bachchan in the film. Priyanka will play the role of an independent, bold and spirited girl who runs a NRI cafe. 

Zanjeer which was released in 1973 is a Hindi film directed and produced by Prakash Mehra, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit and Bindu. The movie changed the trend from romantic films to action films and pioneered Amitabh's new image of a brooding but explosive person who fights back when cornered. He was now known as "The Angry Young Man." The film was a super hit. It collected over Rs. 5 crores (Rs. 50 million) at the box office.

It is said that for her part in the remake of Zanjeer that is set against an oil mafia backdrop the actress has been offered Rs. 11 crore.

The film will go on floors on April 13 at Film City.
