This event had made a stir in 2009 (at Newark) but it has unfortunately repeated itself in 2012 as the 'Khan' tag seems to be going uneasy with the airport officials. The Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan was detained at the New York airport this Thursday, where he was set to attend Yale University's Chubb Fellows, one of the Ivy League institution's highest honours, on April 12 for promoting human ideals through art. He was accompanied by Nita Ambani.
King Khan was cool at the moment and responded "I was detained at the airport as always happens,", unlike the 2009 incident which was extremely rash and humiliating for the actor. In 2009, when the questioning continued after the 2 hours session, the Indian mission intervened and secured his release. He had then responded "I was really hassled at the American Airport because of my name being Khan...It was absolutely was uncalled for...I felt angry and humiliated," said Shah Rukh, who was then heading towards Chicago to participate in an Independence Day celebration.
"It is a Muslim name and I think the name is common on their checklist," he had then said.
At the moment, the star was cool about it and seems to have got a better treatment than what he experienced over 2009. This time the Yale University officials had intervened to get him cleared off the further questioning events. Shah Rukh Khan is considered one of the powerful media artists of the generation who, through his films and philanthropy has been promoting human ideals and aspirations, noted the Chubb Fellowship. Chubb Fellowship roster has included heads of states, Nobel Prize winners, and leaders from every area of human endeavour who have inspired Yale students to see service to the public good as the highest calling to which a global citizen can aspire.
Former Chubb Fellows include Presidents George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter; authors Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes and Toni Morrison; filmmaker Sofia Coppola; architect Frank Gehry; choreographer Mikhail Baryshnikov; and journalist Walter Cronkite.
The world wide publicity and the heart grabbing performances of the actor has always made him special to his countrymen and foreign alike and it is this factor which did contribute in having SRK into the Chubb Fellow list.
