In : |

The superhit adult comedy film Delhi Belly (2011) will be remade in Tamil.

The film produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions was directed by Abhinay Deo in English and dubbed in Hindi. The theatrical trailer of the film was premiered with Aamir Khan's Dhobi Ghat on 21st January 2011 while the film was released on 1 July 2011. The film was given an 'A' certificate for its obscene language and adult content.

And now the Tamil version of Delhi Belly will be directed by R. Kannan. Director R. Kannan had earlier directed the movies Kandein Kadhalai and Jayamkondan.

Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures said that, "Our next Hindi release ROWDY RATHORE is a remake of the superhit Telugu film VIKRAMARKUDU, which was also remade in Tamil as SIRUTHAI, another superhit. In the past we have successfully remade our Hindi productions in the South, like KHOSLA KA GHOSLA (in Tamil) and A WEDNESDAY (in Tamil and Telugu). Some content transcends culture and language, and draws audiences in for the sheer quality of story telling. Delhi Belly will work well with Tamil audiences and we are thrilled with the exceptional screenplay that the team of young writers has developed."

He added, "We have brought on actors who are youthful and popular, along with a very skilled director at the helm. We are confident that the great content of 'Delhi Belly' will act as a bridge for cinema loving audiences across languages."

In the untitled Tamil version of Delhi Belly, actor Arya will play Imran Khan's role while Santhanam will play Kunaal Roy Kapur's character and actor Premgi will essay Vir Das's role. Hansika Motwani and Anjali have been roped in to play the airhostess and journalist respectively. A source said that, “The film will have several known stars in other pivotal roles.”

The popular character artist Nasser, who is known to play the villain with much ease, will essay the role originally played by Vijay Raaz. The cinematography will be done by P.G. Muthiah , editing by Leo, Art Direction by Videsh, Costumes by Deepali and Stunts by Silva. The music will be composed by S Thaman. South writer John Mahendran is writing the dialogues for the Tamil version and a team of three writers is developing the screenplay while retaining the film’s original theme.

The film will go on the floors on 7th May 2012 in Chennai and will be completed by October 2012. The movie is slated for a Pongal release in January 2013.
