Pakistan Elections: The Challenges Ahead of Nawaz Sharif

After the elections held in 14 years - the new prime minister has a long way to go ahead and make the nation rebuilt before he is able to talk peace and to improve relationships with India.

Pakistan: Elections, Reforms and India!
Karachi, Pakistan: After a long 14 year gap, Nawaz Sharif has been able to gain back the throne of Pakistan through a legal election process. The true democratic process of election itself is considered to be a good step forward after having a 14 year gap with military rule started out by Parvez Musharaf, the Army Cheif of Pakistan in 12 October 1999.

The change of governance in Pakistan has little impact on Indian relationship or policies but the nation regards this as a good step and is on a constant watch as to what Nawaz Sharif has in his plans to correct the current volatile situation of Pakistan. The country has faced many issues starting from terrorism to financial instability. So there is a very long path for the new government to cover before it begins peace talks with the Indian government. Although Nawaz Sharif has expressed his desires to continue the peace talks with India and also to bring down the terrorist links in Pakistan responsible for the Mumbai terror attacks.

But the political critics has been watching this as a sweet word to start with, and they still have no hope that this talks or actions will start any time soon. The financial situation of Pakistan is considered to be more weak and is said to be missing enough foreign exchange for the trades to resume.

India will also be keen on how the military acts and the conduct of Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, although this shouldn't be a specific threat to the Prime minister as General Kayani has expressed his least interest in Politics. Also the new Prime minister will have the job of assigning a new Army Chief as Kayani completes his tenure in another 6 months.

Nawaz Sharif will have to be careful when he does so as it was his decision to have Parvez Musharraf as the army chief in 1999 and that turned the situation upside down. The coming days will be eventful for Pakistan.
