Blackberry 9720 Launches In India For Rs. 15,990 - Gets BB OS 7.1

Blackberry which launched BlackBerry 9720 last month has been launched in India with price tag of Rs 15,990. At the time of its global launch its price was not revealed. The device will hit market stores from September 14.

At that time the company had announced that it will hit the Asia, EMEA and Latin American market soon, probably in few weeks time.


With a 2.8-inch touchscreen TFT LCD display and a 360x480 pixels resolution, BlackBerry 9720 features QWERTY keyboard.

With 12mm thickness, and weighing 120 grams, the body of the device looks similar to Curve series. It is powered by an 806MHz Tavor MG1 processor and has 512MB of RAM. The device is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear camera with 4X digital zoom and image stabilization alongside an LED flash, but lacks a front-facing camera.

It comes with 1,450mAh removable battery which the company claims gives up to 7 hours of talk time and 432 hours of standby time. The 9720 comes with 512MB.

This can be expanded up to32GB capacity via microSD card expandability. The phone has dedicated BBM and BBM Voice shortcut keys, placed on the sides of the device.

It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ aGPS and 3G as connectivity options.

Sunil Lalvani, Managing Director for India, BlackBerry said, "The new BlackBerry 9720 smartphone builds on the incredible success of the BlackBerry 7 OS.”

The company said that with its stunning look, it can charm the urban youth and customers who are looking to upgrade from a feature phone or existing BlackBerry Curve smartphone to an affordable. It said that easy-to-use smartphone with rich messaging and social networking connectivity.

The BlackBerry 9720 will be available in Black, Blue, Pink, Purple and White colours.
