Skoda Octavia To Be Launched Under Rs. 15 Lakh

Skoda has launched its all-new premium sedan, the New Skoda Octavia in India. The car is expected to make a debut on Indian roads this Diwali.

This sedan impressed the Indian market in 2001, and this year it is expected to revive its old charm.


“The Legend is coming back” says an excited Skoda about this luxury addition to its range of Fabia, Rapid, Laura. Yeti, Superb in India.This new Octavia has better leg room, sports high functionality and incorporation of latest technology. This will however not count in the ultimate luxury segment, as profusion of chrome highlights and wood panelling are missing in the new car. But sophisticated interiors of the car show a new touch screen and audio system, which is compatible with USB, Bluetooth, SD card and iPod connectivity.

The car offers mid-class qualities for the price of a compact car. "The new Octavia is a great car that meets the needs of Indian customers perfectly: lots of space, modern design, excellent quality and advanced technology at an affordable price," says Werner Eichhorn, Skoda Board Member for Sales and Marketing.

The Octavia boasts of unrivalled space, a timeless and elegant design, high functionality, innovative safety and comfort systems, economical consumption and many Simply Clever ideas.

Skoda is going to retain 2.0-litre TDi mill that does duty in the current Laura and will introduce the 1.4 TSi Twincharger petrol engine that’s turbo- and supercharged – a first for the VW group in India, for the new Octavia.

The base variant of the Octavia will sport a 1.4 TSI engine that is capable of offering 140 bhp. Skoda India might also later add an entry level 1.6 Liter TDI turbo diesel engine variant to keep the costs under check. The car uses the Volkswagen Group MQB platform has been used to develop the Octavia.

The safety features expected in the car are- 4 or 6 airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), anti statutory regulator (ASR), electronic stability programme (ESP) and tyre pressure monitor (TPM).

Skoda is yet to reveal the detailed specs and price of the new Octavia. The car is expected to cost below Rs. 15 lakh on road.

Competition

Skoda is not the only new car ready to vroom on Indian roads this year during Diwali. BMW has launched its cheapest entry-level 1-Series car in India, which will be make a good option for those looking for a luxury car in affordable price bracket.

Competition may also come from latest hatchbacks launched in India. The below 5 lakh hatchback from Hyundai, the Grand i10 will also woo customers away in a season which is already marred with the falling price of Rupee against Dollar. For the mileage lovers Maruti Suzuki Stingray hatchback could also make a dent on Octavia sales.
