Patna: Nearly 100 armed Maoists on Thursday attacked the Dhanbad-Patna Intercity Express in Bihar with an aim to snatch the weapons from RPF personnel on board.
The passenger train was attacked near Kundra halt just before the Jamui railway station, reports claimed.
According to reports, the ultras tried to intercept the Patna-bound passenger train and opened indiscriminate firing in which the driver of the train was seriously injured.
The rebels also attacked RPF and CRPF security jawans, who were escorting the train, and tried to snatch their weapons. Additional CRPF battalions from Lakhisarai and Jamui were immediately rushed to the attack site of Bihar's Jamui district.
The Jamui District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police also confirmed the Naxal attack on the passenger train.
Confirming the news, Jamui SP said, “It’s an attack by Maoists and not an hijack.”
“There were 100 Naxals, including women. They've looted weapons from security personnel escorting the train,” he claimed.
"All passengers are safe. The firing has also stopped. The driver of the train was shot at in the incident. The medical team is on its way," said SP Railway Jamalpur Amitabh Kumar later said.
