Iphone 5C : Did Apple Really Understand The Meaning Of Cheap?

In :

Iphone's cheaper cousin is now becoming more of a joke! The iphone 5C which was launched with a tag line 'Cheap' and was part of company's idea to reach more people using which otherwise is considered a premium choice. But the catch itself came as a big joke as the phone was priced higher or close to the older iphone5, which packed almost similar engine under the hood and an aluminum body outside.

The fall of iphone 5C was obvious as people were more inclined in buying the premium iphone 5 rather thane the iphone 5C (Cheap!). A survey released this week by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners LLC found that 64 percent of U.S. iPhone customers were buying the iPhone 5s, which sports a better camera, faster processor chip and fingerprint-reading security features and starts at $199 with a carrier contract. While the company has let loose a barrage of television and other advertising, the iPhone 5c, which doesn’t have the same upgrades, was favored by 27 percent of buyers.

This takes apple back to the drawing boards, as visionary Steve Jobs had said that customers will want a high end technology rather than a cheaper one. This stays true for Apple, which otherwise sells high end premium phones. But again, I feel that it is technology that is carving into Apple as Android market looks pretty strong and there is a talk among Android community that the much talked about iOS7 is actually a gingerbread version of Android!!

Although reports suggest that Apple still backs up iphone 5C with the 'Colorful' tag in its advertisements. The iphone ads alone has cost the company a whooping $333.4 Million. Customers haven’t yet been persuaded by the ads because the phone shares many of the same components and features as iPhone 5, which was introduced in September 2012, said Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray Cos. in Minneapolis.

“The iPhone 5c is a new phone technically, but it’s really an old phone,” he said. “The iPhone 5s is selling significantly better.”

With these debates on, Apple has decided not to stop with iphones and is planning to launch the next ipad on October 22nd event at San Francisco. It is widely rumored that Apple will officially announce the new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 with hardware upgrade, new processors and cameras.

Last year, the company used its October event to introduce two new tablets — the fourth-generation iPad and the iPad mini.
