Madhuri Benegal to receive Raj Kapoor award

Bollywood Actress Madhuri Dixit and director Shyam Benegal will reportedly receive this year's Raj Kapoor awards constituted by the Maharashtra government.

Shyam Benegal shall be conferred with the Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award-2012 and Mrs. Nene will be honoured with the Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award-2012.

This was announced by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to the state legislature on Friday. Constituted by the Maharashtra government, each award carries a cash prize of Rs.200,000, a citation and a memento and shall be conferred at a public function.

The Raj Kapoor Award honour achievers from the Hindi film industry and this is an award given by the State Government. 

Shyam Benegal is a prolific Indian director and screenwriter. With his first four feature films Ankur (1973), Nishant (1975), Manthan (1976) and Bhumika (1977) he created a new genre, which has now come to be called the "middle cinema" in India. And the Dhak Dhak girl Madhuri Dixit needs no introduction. 

In the Marathi film industry category, the prestigious V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award for this year will be given to veteran actress Leela Gandhi. The V. Shantaram Special Contribution Award will be conferred on stage and film actor Dilip Prabhavalkar, famous as Mahatma Gandhi in "Lage Raho Munnabhai".
