The Dirty Picture premiere stalled

In : |

The Dirty Picture was all set to entertain the viewers on television. The movie was scheduled to telecast first time on television at 12pm and 8pm on Sony Entertainment Channel on Sunday.

A city lawyer had filed a petition seeking to impose a ban on its telecast on the ground that there were obscene shots in the film.

The originally ‘A’ rated film went through 56 cuts to get a UA certificate, in order to be screened on television. A source said that, The channel decided not to play the film after receiving complaints from viewers about the late night timing of the screening.

However, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) says that a UA certified film can be shown only after 11 pm. CBFC had advised that the film should be shown late at night when most parents are available to suitably guide their children.

But the channel disappointed the viewers with the message, ‘For unavoidable reasons we regret to inform the dirty picture will not be telecast today. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.’

Prior to this the High Court had cleared the Vidya Balan starrer film 'The Dirty Picture' on Saturday after 56 cuts, 36 of which were cut by the film producer himself and 22 others as suggested by the Board.

Tusshar ‏Kapoor tweeted, "Really unfortunate that after all the necessary cuts and a valid UA certificate. The Dirty Picture could not be telecast today on sony tv!In light of recent events that exposed the dark side of Bollywood, The Dirty Picture was well timed as it depicts a similar harsh reality!Sad that inspite of being acclaimed for it's entertaining realism & having won 3 National Awards the regulatory forces have stalled the show (sic)."

Tanuj Garg CEO of Motion Pictures tweeted,"Sorry to everyone who's been messaging and calling this morning. Been on the phone continuously. It's unfortunate that even after ...a valid censor cert being in place, the telecast was held! The cuts made to TDP were done in a manner that would not offend the larger populace but completely retain the film's creative integrity!Despite the cuts and a CC, forces in Delhi decided to hold the telecast! The Dirty Picture trending. That's the point abt its popularity. The most discussed& celebrated National Award-winner is nt allowed 2telecast (sic)."

Karan Johar tweeted, "A national award winning film cannot have a national telecast??? this is not an irony but plain and simple hypocrisy!!!!"
