Isuzu Motors, the Japanese SUV maker has started the local production of its models in India. The Isuzu MU-7 SUV and D-Max pickup will be assembled at the Hindustan Motors manufacturing plant in Thiruvallur, Chennai, while the CKD kits will be sourced from Thailand. The locally produced MU-7 SUV has been priced at Rs. 22 lakh for the BS III variant and Rs. 22.3 lakh for the BS IV variant. Isuzu's own manufacturing facility will be operationalised by 2015-16. The SUV is powered by a 3-litre diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 160.8bhp and 360Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to rear wheels via a five speed manual transmission.
