Animator of RA One Injured

National Award winning Charu Ashok Khandal, an animator with Shah Rukh Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment is seriously injured. She is one of the key members of the animation team that added the special effects to Shahrukh Khan's RA.ONE.

Charu Khandal was seriously injured when the auto rickshaw in which she was travelling was hit a speeding Honda City car which was driven by a drunk driver. 

This incident took place on Sunday in Mumbai's Oshiwara area at around 1 am. They were returning from a pub at Juhu Tara Road where they had been celebrating the success of Ra.One. She was returning home with her sister Ritu and friend Vikrant Goyal. 

Charu who was to engaged in the next 10 days with her boyfriend Sagar Thakker suffered multiple fractures and injuries to her spinal cord and leg, and is currently battling for life. It is said that, the swelling in her spinal cord is preventing doctors from conducting any surgery

Manoj Netrapal Gautam, 39, was arrested and later released on bail. Senior inspector Dilip Rupawate said, “We have booked Gautam for rash and negligent driving, causing grievous hurt and for driving under the influence of alcohol.”

He was released on a surety of Rs 10,000 on Sunday. According to medical reports it is said that Gautam was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Charu who is originally from Jaipur, arrived Mumbai two years back to establish herself in the animation industry. After working with a private animation firm for a while, she had recently joined Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment as a contract animator.

Charu's friend Esha Lepcha said that, “Charu cannot sense anything from neck down.”
