Ekta's fight over 'The Dirty Picture' TM

In : |

Ekta Kapoor, the business head of Balaji Films is not so happy with the way her movie title is being used. She has been carrying the title of 'The Dirty Picture' in style through award functions and is really not in good mood when the same name got snatched in for a Kannada movie which is under production starring Veena Malik. Ekta has openly expressed her disapproval for the use of the title and is said to have proceeded with legal action against the production team at Karnataka.

'The Dirty Picture' which is more like a trademark for Balaji productions has been a status symbol for the producers and actors. Especially when Vidya Balan, the lead protagonist did receive the National award for her talents expressed through the movie. Since the movie, Ekta has been specific on what she will like to share about the movie and what she hates to do. But when the news did break out that Veena Malik's movie in Kannada has the same title she was irked to the max!

The stranger part to this story is that Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce or KFCC has been said to have approved the title and is being granted to Venkatappa, one of the production head for the Kannada movie. The Kannada version of 'The Dirty Picture' is being directed by Trishul. It is said that Ekta has sent out a legal notice to the president of KFCC to cancel the permissions given to Venkatappa and stop the name being used in the movies.

The director of the movie has different thoughts on this issue and says that there has been no such legal boundaries of using a bollywood movie title on the regional language movies and claims that Ekta's legal notice will not stand grounds. He adds in the example of 'Houseful' and 'Bhadra' the movies had similar counter parts in Bollywood and Kannada. Since it wasn't a problem with those movies, he just doesn't agree to Ekta's claim for this movie. He also adds that the movie he is making is completely different movie from what Balaji productions had prepared and is never a 'inspired copy' of the original.

Ekta is said to have given a 5 day notice for the KFCC to take actions before she proceeds with the legal actions.
