SMJ - still changes life of many

In : |

Mr. Perfectionist has done it again, and this time it is with his television show. Aamir Khan when started out with his venture 'Satyameva Jayate' he was determinant to make the highest of impact. He had prepared for months to get things right, and when it went on air, the first episode made history on television with over 19 million viewers. And this time its not just viewing that they did. The recent report came from a Sarpanch at Rajasthan Village and he has now stood up to take strong action against female foeticide. The Sarpanch has started to register police case against those families which does sex determination or foeticide.

"Illegal sex determination is rampant in the Shekhawati region (Jhunjhunu, Churu and Sikar districts)," sarpanch Randheer Singh of Budania village told IANS. The village, some 200 km from here, is home to some 5,000 people.

Randheer Singh said a six-member committee had been formed to keep a tab on pregnant women. "After watching Aamir Khan's TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' on female foeticide, I felt that awareness in Rajasthan is not enough," he said. "Checking female foeticide at the village level is necessary to save girl children." he adds.

"If a woman is found involved in illegal sex determination and abortion of a girl child, an FIR (First Information Report) will be filed against her with the police," Singh said. "If she is forced to abort by her in-laws, similar action will be taken against them also," he said. According to the 2011 census, Rajasthan has 883 girls in the 0-6 age group for every 1,000 boys. The child sex ratio in 2001 was 909. The Rajasthan government has taken several measures to end illegal sex determination tests. It has hiked the amount of money given to people who complain about errant ultrasound clinics.

Satyameva jayate had focused on the issue when it aired first on May 6, 2012. The crew, along with a team of news reporters did a sting operation in one such clinic in Rajasthan and had brought material evidence to these acts.

Aamir Khan's latest attempt for social cause is much appreciated, even in midst of accusations that he does this for money, he has stood tall and like every Indian, we do understand the heart of the star behind these shows. When he says he has stopped all endorsements from March 31st and doesn't need the money from those ads, just for the program, we believe what he intends to do.

The actor who has a lesser count of movies when compared to the lead stars has always made an impression even when he does a movie in a year or two. One could not forget ACP Ajay Singh Rathod in 1999 movie Sarfaroosh, which had stirred the National Sentiments at the time and had discussed the much controversial topic of illegal arms trade across Rajasthan Borders.

He added the impact with movies like 'Lagaan' and 'Mangal Pandey - The Rising' which did show the National Spirit and freedom struggle. The movies actually made the audience to flow with the same energy as the actor had portrayed on screen. Movies like Rang De Basanti also added him as the youth icon and he was to an extend show the youth angle of Patriotism.

Later when he did 'Taare Zamein Par' and '3 Idiots' he did emphasize on changing the education system and it was the concept widely accepted.

What he did with his movies, he is now trying with a real face in SJM and we salute the actor for his initiative and hope that it does change more lives in the country!
