'Being Human' launches at UAE after Paris

In : |

Being Human Foundation has been a integral part of Salman Khan and when they had launched the fashion clothing line in 2009 it was just hugged by the fans and others wholeheartedly. Salman Khan will now look at promoting his fashion clothing line in UAE after it was launched internationally at the fashion capital, Paris. The launch of the new line of fashion accessories happened in UAE this thursday.

"All fashion brands are about looking good. Being Human is also about doing good. And you can do good by the simple act of slipping into a t-shirt or a pair of jeans," says Salman to an interview to ET.

Being Human: The Salman Khan Foundation owns the Being Human brand. It uses royalties received from sale of products to support education and healthcare projects. Last year, it signed an exclusive licensing pact with Mumbai-based Mandhana Industries to design, market and distribute Being Human clothing products across the world for nine years.

Manish Mandhana, managing director of BSE-listed Mandhana Industries, says they will be launching a clothing store at Mumbai Central suburbs followed by an August launch of flagship store on Linking Road.

While product prices have not yet been worked out, but the sources confirm that Salman Khan doesn't believe in having limited editions and would also like to keep the prices of clothing accessible and to a range of Rs 650-750 and averaging Rs 2,000-3,000.

"This will be a first in the world where every piece of clothing in a store contributes royalties to support a cause," Mandhana said.

Being Human Clothing, introduced in world's fashion capital Paris last month through the shop-in-shop concept across 10 stores, is being launched in the UAE across more than 100 stores of fashion and lifestyle retailers Splash and Iconic.

The Mandhana has invested a sum of Rs. 100 Crore for the venture.

Salman Khan announced the launch of Being Human Fashion at the HDIL India Couture Week in 2009. He launched Being Human watches and T-shirts in 2010. Before joining hands with Mandhana, Being Human had a contract with Cotton World, which ended this March. Khan said the clothing and accessory brand may extend to a cafe or a bar and even a cricket team. But the focus of the trust will remain education and healthcare.

He also clarified on a phone interview to ET, that he does care for 'Being Human' more than his career, "People in the film industry always want to save for a rainy day. Many early actors died in small houses with no money and so they are insecure. My advantage is I don't value money that much. It's an easy thing for me to let go. I don't know how many zeros are there in more than Rs 10 lakh and earning that was my life's ambition which I've crossed a long time back,"

"When you realise you're making so much and you know you haven't earned all of it yourself and that you've not worked for it as much as others have and that destiny played an important role, I guess you feel the need to be appreciative. And the need to give your token of appreciation to God," he adds.

In response to a range of questions, Khan said, “Each and every penny generated by the profit earned from the sale of the huge line of clothing targeting the UAE’s multi-cultural youth, will go to the foundation.”

“The idea of launching Being Human was inspired by the desire of my parents and other family members to give back to the society. The clothing line launch from Dubai will be followed soon by other brands, including restaurants, ladies garments and watches, to be used for generating more resources for the foundation,” he added.

“Wearing Being Human means you “look good, do good,” because you help people by the simple act of slipping into these clothes every day,” Salman reminded his fans.

So be it!
